Jongno café for chewy coffee bread at night: Munhwa Bakery
In short
Munhwa Bakery is a takeaway bakery near Ikseon-dong Hanok Village in Jongno, Seoul. I brought home its coffee bread, black sesame bread, and milk cream bread, and they stayed chewy into the evening without the cream feeling heavy. Verdict: pair the coffee bread with milk.

Munhwa Bakery near Ikseon-dong Hanok Village
The address is 1F, 65 Donhwamun-ro, Jongno-gu, Seoul. It is open daily from 11 AM to 8 PM, and is closed for Chuseok on 09/25. There is no dedicated parking, so I recommend using a nearby paid parking lot!
I went to Jongno-gu for the first time in ages! I usually only go to Gangnam-gu and Seocho-gu, so it had been a while since I visited central Jongno-gu~ After wandering around Seosulla-gil and walking all the way to Ikseon-dong, I stopped by Munhwa Bakery (문화제빵), near Ikseon-dong Hanok Village >< It is close to Jongno 3-ga Station too, so it is quite a conveniently located bakery!!! Hahaha

The interior is small, so please enter two parties at a time! I visited on a weekend afternoon and it was relatively quiet, so I got in right away, but apparently there can sometimes be a waiting line.

Freshly baked breads and a varied display
Munhwa Bakery sells only bread made that day, and any unsold bread is provided to underserved groups including children facing food insecurity, elderly people living alone, people with disabilities receiving home care, free meal services, homeless shelters, and social welfare facilities 💛💛 It is a bakery that helps children and has such a positive impact, so I really hoped Munhwa Bakery would do even better, haha.
Once inside, you will see the bread displayed like this. So many kinds, right? Haha. I actually visited Munhwa Bakery around two and a half years ago too, and I liked that the selection and prices were similar to back then. I cannot believe the prices are this affordable!!..!!!

For reference, Munhwa Bakery is takeaway only! Maybe that is why the turnover is incredibly fast, haha. The line may look long, but it moves quickly, so do not give up if there is a wait—hang in there~

Munhwa Bakery menu and popular breads
The breads, in order, are injeolmi bread (Korean roasted soybean rice cake bread), peanut bread, mugwort rice cake bread, black sesame bread, cheese bread, milk cream bread, squid-ink condensed milk bread, onion bagel, coffee bread, and garlic bread.

These are Munhwa Bakery's number-one and number-two most popular breads, haha. Number one is garlic bread at ₩6,800, and number two is coffee bread, also called cappuccino bread, at ₩5,800.

Number three is the onion bagel at ₩6,000. The squid-ink condensed milk bread is my pick, so I just had to add a photo..!! Hahaha. It was delicious when I had it before, haha.

I got the coffee bread, black sesame bread, and milk cream bread!! Haha. The staff member was so quick—zip, zip, zip, payment and packaging done right away.

Coffee bread and cream bread that stayed chewy at night
I took them home and ate them that night, and the bread was still chewy! Even though they were full of cream, it did not feel rich or greasy at all, haha. Personally, I think they would be tasty chilled slightly in the refrigerator.

These are photos of the coffee bread and black sesame bread! The coffee bread comes cut into four pieces as standard, haha. The sweet coffee cream bread had such a fluffy texture that it simply melted in my mouth!! 😄🫶🏻💙 Even from the moment I opened the bag, it was filled with a subtle yet strong coffee aroma ☕️🤎 I recommend bread with an Americano, but for the coffee bread, I recommend having it with milk even more. Definitely recommending Munhwa Bakery.
