On a weekday when I took a day off to enjoy some relaxed downtime, I grabbed lunch near Gyodae and went looking for a specialty roastery café that's known to be a local favorite. Wanting to treat some friends I hadn't seen in a while to good coffee, I ended up at Coffee829 Seocho.
Having started out in 2012, they've built up 15 whole years of roasting know-how, so it's a café with real expertise and pride in its beans, apparently!

Coffee829 Seocho menu board and dessert lineup
Looking over the menu board, I noticed all sorts of custom drinks alongside the roastery's own signature bean lineup.
They offer Americano discounts during commute hours and at a set time in the afternoon, which must feel like a lifesaver for office workers nearby.
For desserts, scones, bagels, salt bread, financiers and other bakery items that pair nicely with coffee were neatly lined up in the case.
Ordering for six and watching the cold brew drip
That day, I placed a varied order of drinks for my group of friends who'd finally reunited, taking everyone's taste into account.

In one corner of the café, you can watch cold brew being extracted drop by drop in real time — a fun little thing to watch while you wait.
They also sell their high-quality, in-house roasted beans by the bag separately, so I'd recommend them to anyone who enjoys a home café setup too.
Ground-floor solo seats and the no-kids second floor
I visited around 11:40, and even with other customers in the café, all six drinks came out just 10 minutes after we ordered. While waiting, I wandered around and checked out both floors.
By the window on the ground floor, there were tidy solo seats — perfect for coming alone to relax or work on a laptop.
Going up to the second floor revealed a cozy yet open atmosphere quite different from downstairs, with plenty of wide table space well suited to group gatherings and chatting.
Since the second floor is run as a no-kids zone for safety, it had an even more composed, quiet feel.
For this visit, I wanted to taste the bean's deep, rich flavor as it is, so I went with the Red Moon espresso.
Red Moon and Blue Moon: what's in Coffee829's signature blends?
Coffee829's signature blends, 'Red Moon' and 'Blue Moon,' show real craftsmanship right down to the bean combinations. Knowing a bit about them makes the flavor even richer.
Red Moon: a blend of Ethiopian natural and washed beans, combined from top-grade G1 and G2 green beans, known for their vivid fruit aroma and acidity. The sweet fruit notes of the natural process meet the clean acidity of the washed process in perfect balance.
Blue Moon: a body-focused bean blending the nutty sweetness of the rare Brazilian Yellow Bourbon variety, the excellent balance of Honduras Copán, and the heavy, smoky dark chocolate character unique to Guatemala Antigua.
Why Coffee829 Seocho is worth a stop in Seocho-dong
After a good lunch, visiting Coffee829 Seocho turned out to be a Seocho-dong roastery favorite that exceeded my expectations.
It was even more impressive to enjoy freshly roasted, high-quality beans at a reasonable price and with friendly service.
If you're near Seocho-dong or Gyodae Station and want to experience the true flavor of the beans, or if you'd like a cozy space for a comfortable chat, I'd recommend this place without hesitation.
If I'm ever back in the area, I'd happily return and properly enjoy the Blue Moon beans along with some other dessert menu items.
