Today I'm reviewing Dangke Donkatsu, which I'd recommend for a Gongneung food date haha

Entrance to Dangke Donkatsu in the alley along the Gyeongchun Line trail

Dangke Donkatsu is a Gongneung Station restaurant with a cozy, relaxed vibe, located in an alley along the Gyeongchun Line forest trail ☺️

The alley storefront atmosphere at Dangke Donkatsu

Walking into the alley, the storefront had such a pretty atmosphere that I just stopped in my tracks ✨

Table seating in the basement-level interior of Dangke Donkatsu

Inside Dangke Donkatsu: basement interior and solo-dining seats

Once inside, the interior felt much roomier than the outside suggested. There are 4-top and 6-top tables plus tables good for eating alone, so it's a great find if you're looking for somewhere to eat solo near Gongneung Station.

What stood out most were the cute little props decorating every corner — it reminded me of a small shop I visited on a trip to Japan! Everything was so nicely arranged that it was fun just to look around.

This tiny convenience store miniature is so cute, right?! I kind of wanted to steal it, haha 🥰

I even spotted a prop I have at home 👀 A moss tray — I was so happy to see the same one here

Dangke Donkatsu menu and what we ordered

Here's the Dangke Donkatsu menu. There's the signature Tokyo loin katsu, plus tonkatsu options of loin, fillet, cheese, and mixed. For meal sets there's curry rice and udon. I ordered the Tokyo loin katsu and the pork loin curry udon. I also ordered one each of Dangke Donkatsu's popular fruit highballs — lemon and strawberry! 💗

Two fruit highballs topped with frozen lemon and strawberry

Lemon and strawberry fruit highballs

Ta-da, the fruit highballs came out first 🍋🍓 A refreshing-looking highball piled high with frozen lemon and strawberry.

The stack of lemon slices really stood out. One sip and the sharp fizz of the highball combined with the sweet-tart fruit was so delicious, I really enjoyed it. You can choose alcoholic or non-alcoholic, so it's easy to enjoy it like a regular soft drink too 🥂

How was the pork loin curry udon?

Ta-da, the pork loin curry udon came out first 😻 A neatly arranged curry udon with a generous serving of noodles, and the pork loin katsu on top looked especially appetizing.

The crispy fried pork loin katsu had such a generous portion 😋

I mixed the toppings into the curry udon first and took a bite — the noodles were nice and chewy, and the curry flavor was really good 😍

Udon noodles mixed into curry sauce

The handmade Japanese-style curry tasted exactly like the curry I had on a trip to Japan. The curry sauce wasn't too strong but still grabbed your appetite, and it went really well with the chewy udon noodles.

Cross-section of the pork loin katsu

The pork loin katsu looked really delicious too, right?! Crispy on the outside, and the inside held onto juicy, tender meat

A crispy-outside, juicy-inside piece of pork loin katsu

As you'd expect from a tonkatsu specialist, the pork loin katsu was crispy outside and juicy inside through and through 🥰

Dipping it in the sauce that came with it made it even better. The meat had a good ratio of fat to lean, so you could enjoy both the rich flavor and the light, clean taste.

Tonkatsu served alongside curry sauce

It also went great with the curry. There was plenty of curry sauce, so you could mix it into rice or eat it alongside the tonkatsu — both were delicious.

The side salad and chicken gomtang that came with the meal

The side dishes were all delicious too. There's a refreshing salad along with a homemade chicken gomtang (chicken broth soup)! The hot, savory broth and the clean salad went really well with the curry udon.

Signature Tokyo loin katsu: pouring the sauce over the hot plate

Ta-da, Dangke Donkatsu's signature Tokyo loin katsu came out soon after ✨ It looked like something out of an anime.

The Tokyo loin katsu sizzling on the hot plate

The sound of it sizzling on the hot plate and the smell of the katsu got my appetite going. There's a choice of a regular sauce or a spicy sauce — I went with the regular one 💛

The regular and special sauce for the Tokyo loin katsu

You pour this sauce over the Tokyo loin katsu yourself! The special sauce was really the highlight 😋

Pouring the sauce onto the sizzling hot plate lets it soak moistly into the meat, so the flavor really sinks in.

One bite in and you just naturally go 'wow, this is delicious!' — a true signature dish.

A large piece of the Tokyo loin katsu

Each piece of meat is quite big, so it's great to share between two people. The sweet-and-salty sauce mingles with the katsu's juices, and it just melts in your mouth when you bite in 💗

Adding a little wasabi or mustard gives it a sharp, clean kick.

Cheese katsu and plum tea to finish

The cheese katsu was so juicy it practically glowed, didn't it?! One bite with the chopsticks and it felt satisfyingly heavy haha

The savory, salty cheese, the tender lean meat, and the crispy batter — all three came together perfectly. It's a flavor I already know I love, and I'm already craving it again 🤭

Pairing it with a cold highball rounds out the perfect Gongneung food date. It's a refreshing highball that even lightweight drinkers can easily enjoy.

I finished the meal off with a few crisp bites of fruit for a refreshing palate cleanse.

Right as we were finishing, they brought out a cup of plum tea, which was sweet and helped digestion feel light and clean. The owner and staff were all so kind too, which made this Gongneung Station restaurant even better.

The plum tea served at the end of the meal

After the meal, we each grabbed a candy on the way out and wrapped up the day with a stroll along the Gyeongchun Line forest trail. It's such a nice time for walks as the weather cools down. How about a delicious meal at Dangke Donkatsu for a great Gongneung food date this fall? ☺️
