Why Shabu20 Bokhyeon for lunch near Daegu Airport?

I had somewhere to be near Daegu Airport for lunch, and while looking around for a spot I landed on Shabu20 Bokhyeon branch. I'm generally a shabu-shabu fan and love finding decent places nearby, but this was my first time at this one.

Honestly, at a lot of shabu-shabu spots you fetch the ingredients yourself, so I figured the food wouldn't vary that much between places — but after eating here I was surprised at how good it actually was 👍 And being so close to Daegu Airport, it's a great spot for a meal right before or after a flight.

Shabu20 Bokhyeon location and opening hours

Shabu20 Daegu Bokhyeon branch is at 79 Gonghang-ro, Buk-gu, Daegu (Bokhyeon-dong san44-6). Open daily from 11am to 10pm, and they said parking reservations are available for group visits.

There are dedicated parking lots in front and behind the building, so parking is easy. There's also Gonghanggyo riverside park nearby, so if you're not ready to head straight home after eating, it's a nice spot for a walk to help digest. A great combo of eat-well-then-stroll!

After some deliberation, I went with the spicy and sukiyaki broths.

Walking in, the space felt spacious and the tables were spread out comfortably, so it was easy to eat without feeling cramped. There were families dining, and also friends and couples, so it seemed like a solid choice for groups of any size.

Salad bar and sauce bar: what to pick up first

The salad bar at Shabu20 Daegu Bokhyeon branch had so much food I genuinely didn't know what to grab first. Just browsing through it, the variety was so overwhelming I couldn't even wrap my head around how much they'd prepared 👏👏👏 So I decided to just start piling on whatever looked good.

The sauce selection was pretty extensive too. With so many options, it could get overwhelming figuring out the best combo, but the sauce bar has detailed instructions for making the recommended sauces, so you can just follow those. There are so many sauce types that I'll just say — go and pick your favorite!

How the meat station works: three plates at a time

The meat station at Shabu20 Daegu Bokhyeon branch has unlimited beef and pork, so I truly ate until I was stuffed 🥩🥩🥩

The rule at the meat station is three plates at a time. Just bring back what you can eat, and go get more if you run out! Most importantly, only take what you'll actually finish so nothing goes to waste!!!

The spring rolls (wollamssam) were really fresh too.

Soy-glazed dakgangjeong, only at the Bokhyeon branch

I'd heard a lot about how good Shabu20's fried chicken bites (dakgangjeong) are, and now I get why. Honestly they might be better than a dedicated fried chicken place 🍗👍 I think other branches only had the seasoned version, but here they also have a soy sauce version, so I got to try both flavors. Personally, the soy sauce chicken bites were really delicious too.

Drinks and draft beer are unlimited too

For drinks, it felt like a total "we prepared everything just in case" situation haha. From orange juice and plum juice to coffee and sodas, there's a bit of everything so you can pick whatever suits your mood!

What especially caught my eye was that draft beer is unlimited too! Unlimited draft beer while eating shabu-shabu… draft beer lovers, how many pints would you have? 🍺

And there's still so much more food!! From takoyaki to cream pasta, honestly just tasting one bite of everything would fill you up. There's just too much on offer,,,!

Even taking just small portions, the table ended up completely full. And the best part was that everything I tried turned out to be delicious. I hadn't even started the main shabu-shabu yet and I already felt like I was getting full haha.

Spicy broth or sukiyaki broth: how they compared

Then finally it was time for today's star, the shabu-shabu. I loaded it up with plenty of fresh vegetables and beef without holding back. Dipping it in the recommended Shabu20 sauce combo from the sauce bar made it noticeably better 👍👍 The beef was so good I lost count of how many times I refilled it haha.

The spicy broth had a sharp, savory kick that kept me reaching for more meat and vegetables. The sukiyaki broth, on the other hand, was slightly sweet and salty, giving a completely different vibe from the spicy one — and I liked that contrast!!

Finishing with affogato and a takeaway iced americano

No matter how full you are after loads of beef, there's always room for dessert, right? I thought I'd just grab some ice cream to finish things off, and went to get some when—

right next to it were instructions for making affogato!!!!? Couldn't resist that.

So I immediately poured espresso over the ice cream to make an affogato. Finishing shabu-shabu with a sweet, bitter affogato at the end made dessert time completely satisfying too.

Even after eating dessert properly, I found out they also let you take dessert drinks to go. I said I was full, but of course I couldn't just walk past — ended up grabbing a takeaway iced americano too haha.
