Yongridan-gil gomtang restaurant, extra-large bowls: Baekok Yongsan

In short

Baekok Yongsan is a Korean restaurant specializing in clear pork gomtang (beef-style bone soup) on Yongridan-gil near Sinyongsan Station in Seoul. One table brought the extra-large pork gomtang at 15,000 won, the extra-large spicy gomtang at 16,000 won and cabbage mandu (dumplings) at 10,000 won for 5 pieces, so the clear and the spicy broth could be tasted side by side. The extra-large size comes with generous meat, making Baekok Yongsan a solid pick on a day you want to fill up on rice soup.

Kimchi and kkakdugi side dishes at Baekok Yongsan

At a gomtang restaurant, the kimchi and kkakdugi (diced radish kimchi) really matter, right?! One bite in, and they were crunchy but well-fermented — the perfect match for the soup 👏🏻

Pork gomtang (extra-large), 15,000 won: the clear-broth signature

First up, we tried Baekok Yongsan's clear-broth signature dish, the pork gomtang (large)! 🥣✨ The clear, transparent broth was packed with 1.5 times the usual amount of meat, which surprised us with how generous it was. There was no gamey smell or greasiness at all — just a rich, savory broth flavor that spread through my whole mouth. Truly excellent 🤤❤️

A spoonful of thin gomtang meat lifted from the bowl

The meat was thin and moist, with a texture that melted away, and topping it with a piece of crunchy kkakdugi finished the bowl off perfectly 😳 If you want clean, mild Korean food near Yongsan Station, this is a must-try dish!

Spicy gomtang (extra-large), 16,000 won: the fiery hangover bowl

Next up is the spicy gomtang (large), with its irresistibly fiery broth! Once you stir in the seasoning sauce and take a spoonful, you can really tell the meat portion is generous 💖 It's spicy and refreshing at the same time — this would make a great hangover-soup spot in Yongsan too.

A large chunk of meat lifted from the spicy gomtang

There were such big chunks of meat packed into the soup that I got to enjoy meat all the way to the last bite, and the spicy seasoning had soaked all the way into the meat — I scraped up even the very last spoonful of broth 😋👍🏻

Cabbage mandu, 5 pieces for 10,000 won: the side dish to add

Last up is the signature side dish, cabbage mandu! 🥟✨ These are Baekok's own unique creation — dumplings packed full of meat and kimchi filling, gently wrapped in crunchy cabbage and steamed. They're a perfect delicacy to pair alongside the gomtang, so if you visit Baekok Yongsan, be sure to add this to your order.

Who should visit Baekok Yongsan, and on what kind of day

At the tidy, upscale Baekok Yongsan, we enjoyed a generous meal of gomtang and cabbage mandu and left completely satisfied! 💖 Every single dish felt carefully made, and the whole meal left me feeling great and full.
