Today's spot: Hantiok
Ta-da :-) I went to Hantiok, a Korean BBQ restaurant that mom cafés online have been raving about for being great to visit with a baby. With a kids-zone playroom set up, we got to have a relaxed family meal with our baby. Both the beef and pork were good quality, and the side dishes were seasoned neatly and cleanly. There's even a clear Andong-style gukbap (rice and soup dish) our baby could eat, so the whole family ate well. Here's my honest review of Hantiok, a rare Korean BBQ restaurant with a playroom near Jamsil!
Hantiok's Bangi-dong location: interior vibe and baby chairs

It's a spacious place with several room tables, perfect for group meals. The tables are spaced well apart, so it feels comfortable. Being a restaurant with a kids zone, they also had plenty of baby chairs on hand — nice. It's the kind of Korean BBQ place where you don't feel self-conscious bringing a baby, so we could eat at ease. Apparently a lot of celebrities have come here, and their seats were marked — the names alone made me go wow 🤗

So how's the kids-zone playroom?
Hantiok's pride and joy — the kids-zone playroom! The space is bigger and more comfortable than I expected. It's basically kids-café level for play. Best of all, you can see the playroom clearly right from your table, so it felt safe. It's a great place for kids of all ages to play, so as long as they can play on their own, parents can eat in peace, right? And the kids burn energy and get hungry, so they'll eat well without fussing.
What we ordered

- Imperial short rib set (600g)
- Hanwoo pork galbi 300g
Since this restaurant specializes in grilled meat and soup, you can have a hearty meal with just one set. We first picked the beef short rib set since even our toddler could eat it too. It comes with a savory brisket soup on the side, so there was no need to order a separate stew — nice touch. While eating, the seasoned galbi smell wafting from another table smelled so good that we added one more portion just to try. They also have a set-menu option, so it seems fine to stop by for a simple lunch too.
Side dishes and the self-serve bar

There were quite a lot of side dishes. There were plenty of kimchi and jangajji (pickled vegetables) types to pair with the meat, so we could mix and match. In particular, that perilla leaf kimchi had such a savory depth that it could be finished with rice alone. There was also a rare shiitake mushroom jangajji, which was perfect on top of the beef! Since we really love side dishes that go with meat, having a self-serve bar meant we could refill easily — we went back for more a few times.

The taste of the 600g imperial short rib
Next came the 600g imperial short rib platter. Just looking at the color of the meat, you can tell it's good quality, right? The marbling was on point too, making the beef look tasty enough to eat raw. At 600g, the portion isn't small at all. And for that amount, the price is pretty reasonable, don't you think? Beef especially tends to be more filling, so a half-pound (600g) was plenty for two.

They clearly put a lot of care into building the charcoal fire — a mild smoky aroma and just the right heat. We grilled the beef ourselves, but it wasn't hard at all. Since the meat quality was good, we grilled it to medium and cooked a separate well-done portion just for the baby. Meanwhile, the marbling was truly gorgeous — the ratio of lean meat to fat was just right. It was exactly the kind of cut that's perfect for charcoal grilling.

A juicy piece of imperial short rib, dripping with meat juices. Think of it as what's commonly called beef chuck flap (sogalbisal). With just the right fat layer giving it a chewy, springy texture, it's a cut with a big fan base. Sure enough, one bite delivered rich meaty aroma along with great texture and juiciness. It wasn't tough at all, just pleasantly chewy, so even our little one could bite into it easily. Topped with wasabi and shiitake mushroom paste, it becomes a combo with even more savory depth — I really recommend trying it this way first.

The brisket soup included in the set
I honestly didn't expect much from the brisket soup that came with the set, since it felt like a freebie side, but wow — it was generously filled with ingredients, which honestly surprised me. It came out better than a regular galbitang (beef rib soup), right? The rich broth was loaded with brisket meat, enough to be a full meal just poured over rice. The broth especially was deep and not greasy at all, so it paired well while eating the grilled meat. Full of mushrooms too — it tasted like a proper nourishing meal.

The pork galbi (300g) we added
Lured by the neighboring table, we added pork galbi, and even raw, the seasoning smelled savory enough to make us curious before it even hit the grill. They also switched out the grill plate for us without even needing to ask — very thoughtful, and it felt like a whole new meal. With seasoned galbi, sometimes you feel it's drowning in sauce and too much. Here, the pork galbi stuck to the basics, so you could taste the meat's natural flavor more. And best of all, it was easier to grill — since the sauce wasn't excessive, it didn't burn easily.

Beautifully browned, appetizing galbi. The first bite, I ate plain to taste the meat itself — it was tenderized well and soft. The seasoning wasn't overly salty or sweet either; it had a subtle, refined flavor that didn't get tiring, with a strong savory pork taste that I liked. We were already full, but seasoned meat is a different story, so we happily grilled and finished a full plate.
Verdict: how is it as a Korean BBQ spot to visit with a baby?

A meal at Hantiok that felt extra generous, from quality meat to a deep, rich soup! Both the beef and pork were in good condition and well seasoned, so it was delicious across the board. The soup, too, had such a rich broth that I thought I'd be satisfied just coming back for lunch on its own next time.
But most of all, I loved that the restaurant's atmosphere was one families and kids could enjoy. It's surprisingly hard to even find Korean BBQ restaurants suited for eating with a baby, from the menu on up. But here, the clear gukbap was delicious and there's a kids-zone playroom, so we could enjoy the meal happily even with kids along. I'm planning to come back for our next family gathering. That was my honest review of Hantiok, a Bangi-dong Korean BBQ restaurant with a playroom that works great with a baby.
