I had some business in Hayang and was looking around for good lunch spots when I found this place! I went with my mom to Sonsi Sushi, a well-known spot near Hayang Station. I'd heard there's a wait at lunchtime, so I went a bit late on a weekday around 1:30pm — and sure enough, there was a wait, haha. But there's a waiting area and the AC was nice and cold, so it wasn't rough at all, and I was even more curious about the sushi at Sonsi Sushi after that.
📍Address: 116-164 Geumnak-ri, Hayang-eup, Gyeongsan-si, Gyeongbuk ⏰Hours: Daily 11:30–21:00 (break time 15:30–16:30)

How's the wait? Second-floor waiting area and parking
If you need to wait, you can reserve ahead on Catch Table and then wait on the second floor. It's not a huge space, but there are chairs and the AC was blasting full power, so even in the middle of summer I got to sit and wait comfortably in the cool air.

There are about 5 tables total. Since I went on a weekday afternoon, it seemed like most of the customers were students from Daegu Catholic University nearby.
There are about 2 parking spots right in front of the restaurant, but they also support ₩1,000 of parking, so try using the Hayang Station parking lot or the Hayang Sauna parking lot!

What we ordered: value set with premium upgrade, plus ankimo futomaki
We ordered the value set (₩30,500) with the premium upgrade (+₩2,700) and the Sonsi ankimo futomaki (₩12,000). The value set alone would've been plenty to fill us up, but I'd heard the ankimo futomaki was so good that I just had to try it, haha.

Handmade apple vinegar sashimi bowl
First to come out was the sashimi bowl from the value set. The amount of sashimi was quite generous, and the egg strips and vegetables were fresh, making for a really hearty portion.

And the vinegar sauce was a handmade apple vinegar sauce — compared to the usual chogochujang I've had, this one had noticeably more sweetness and umami, which made the bowl so much tastier. The sauce was so good I was completely satisfied.

Handmade sauce shrimp tempura
The handmade sauce shrimp tempura came out with 4 pieces. The shrimp was fried really crispy, light and nutty at the same time — I loved it. The sauce was also handmade, so it was less sweet than usual, which I liked even more. It was fine to really dunk the shrimp in, so I kept dipping it over and over, haha.

Premium 12-piece aged sushi set
Then came the aged sushi set upgraded to premium! The udon portion was generous too, and the sushi pieces were thick-cut, looked delicious, and came in a hearty amount. No wonder this place is famous with students — with value like this, it's easy to see why it's known as the go-to spot near Hayang Station and Daegu Catholic University!

How does the ankimo futomaki taste?
Finally, the ankimo futomaki (₩12,000) arrived. The roll was genuinely huge, lol — looking at it, I wondered if I could even fit a bite in my mouth?! And they piled on so much ankimo that it felt like my mouth was full of it, which felt amazing.

Look at the amount of ankimo on there??? Even though the futomaki was already big, they topped it with that much ankimo, and the combination was so good. The ankimo flavor really came through, and the texture of the futomaki was great too!

Curious about what was inside the futomaki, I flipped it over and found salmon, egg, tuna, pickled radish, fried shrimp, and lotus root?? Seeing the cross-section really showed off the full texture, and I realized they'd packed in only the tastiest ingredients, lol. We were really satisfied. My mom and I had it for lunch, and even while saying how stuffed we were, we both agreed that this place is truly the best spot near Hayang Station, and that we'd have to come back here next time we're getting lunch in Hayang!
