Today's the last meal of our Sokcho trip — a shabu jangkalguksu (knife-cut noodle) spot!!

It's dog-friendly too, so I'm 1000% planning to come back with Gucci in tow later — here's my very satisfied review ෆ(՞ ⌯'ᵕ'⌯ ՞)ෆ ̖́-

There's a parking lot behind the building too, so no need to worry haha

The restaurant entrance and surrounding building

We got there before 11, and by almost noon the place was already full!!! Felt like a real locals' favorite, which got my hopes way up haha

We watched the how-to-eat guide closely and followed it! lol

Basic side dishes and the broth

The basic side dishes came out like this! That kimchi was such a perfect match with kalguksu ෆ(՞ ⌯'ᵕ'⌯ ՞)ෆ ̖́-

They also gave us this kind of ginseng — proper energy boost!! haha

Ginseng served alongside the basic side dishes

Kalguksu noodles come included by default!! First the broth for the red jangkalguksu shabu came out haha. They say the broth is simmered every day for 3 hours with sanghwang mushroom and heotgae (Hovenia dulcis) extract!

How the Haemul Kkot Jjaengban platter looks

Seriously, seeing this made my jaw drop, did it not?

It was genuinely so plentiful I wondered how we'd finish it all!!!

Whole squid, octopus, abalone, blue crab, shrimp, shabu meat, an array of mushrooms, and even mussels packed in generously (⸝⸝⸝♡⩊♡⸝⸝⸝)

Blue crab, shrimp, and mussels on the seafood platter

I'm a certified seafood fiend, and I was genuinely dying of happiness ㅠㅠㅠㅠ

Close-up of fresh abalone
Seafood and mushrooms arranged on the platter

The seafood was all so fresh!!! I guess since customers keep coming in, the ingredients turn over fast and stay fresher haha

The abalone was practically still moving

Eating order — clams, mussels, and crab first

Once the broth's boiling enough, put in the clams, mussels, and crab first to let them flavor the stock 三⊂( ・ ̫・)⊃💘💘💘

The smell was so good it was genuinely hard to hold back from this point on lolol

We ate the mussels and clams that cooked first!! They were both so plump, super satisfying

Cooked mussels and clams
Abalone and octopus cooked in the broth

The abalone and octopus were so chewy, they really made me crave soju ㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠ but we were heading back to Chuncheon that day so I held myself back hard,,,,

Whole squid added to the pot

The squid was whole too, and so tender!!!! (o´〰`o)♡*✲゚*。

There were mushrooms of every kind — besides enoki there was white wood ear, king oyster, and more haha

Shout out to the shrimp for working hard to get peeled today too ,, ❤*.(๓´͈ ˘ `͈๓).*❤

Peeled shrimp

I figured the crab was just for the broth so I didn't expect much, but it was packed with meat and it was really sweet

A blue crab packed with meat

The meat, then finally the handmade noodles

It's shabu shabu, so meat can't be missing!!!!>< Once you cook the meat, mushrooms, and seafood together, all those flavors seep into the broth and it just keeps getting better!!!! (⸝⸝⸝♡⩊♡⸝⸝⸝)

The funny thing is, my stomach was already pretty full before the noodles even went in lolololol

But there's no giving up, so in went the noodles!! The broth was seriously so rich, such a delicious jangkalguksu ㅠㅠ that's exactly what it was!!! Spicy enough to be the #1 soju pairing ㅠㅠㅠㅠ

The broth is already made with so much care, and then the kalguksu noodles turn out to be handmade too?!!?

They were chewy and went so well eaten together with the broth

Seafood, shabu shabu, and then chewy kalguksu on top — honestly a lineup that's basically guaranteed to restore your energy ♡(っ*ᵔ꒳ᵔ)ˆᵕˆ*c)♡

This huge pot ended up completely packed with seafood shells lolololol seriously such great value ❤*.(๓´͈ ˘ `͈๓).*❤

A pot filled with seafood shells

Such a filling meal, total satisfaction!!!!

The table after finishing the meal

Mouthwash at the counter, receipt review perk

There was even mouthwash at the counter — I was touched by the owner's thoughtfulness

They also give you a Häagen-Dazs if you write a receipt review!!! We were so full we told them we didn't need it lolol

Next time I'm definitely coming back for dinner on my own dime for a soju!!! My intent to revisit is 23048%!!! If you're looking for a dog-friendly restaurant in Sokcho, a jangkalguksu spot in Sokcho, or just good food in Sokcho — I highly recommend <Haemul Kkot Jangkalguksu>!! haha
