Anguk Station pasta restaurant: seaweed mackerel pasta, Concasse

In short

Concasse Anguk is a pasta restaurant set in a hanok building down a Bukchon alley, a 5-minute walk from Anguk Station Exit 2 in Jongno, Seoul. Arriving at the 11:30am weekday opening with her mother, the writer ordered Concasse Anguk's signature lasagna and potato gnocchi plus an unexpected pairing, seaweed mackerel pasta. The mackerel was not fishy at all and matched the savory depth of the seaweed, acting as a refreshing break between the richer dishes.

Exterior of Concasse Anguk in a Bukchon alley near Anguk

Today I headed out to Anguk on a nice relaxed weekday. Bukchon and Seochon are places I really love~ that distinct quiet, hanok atmosphere is just so good. While looking around for something to eat, I decided to go to Concasse Anguk, famous as an Anguk Station pasta restaurant.

Where is Concasse Anguk, and how far is it from Anguk Station?

Concasse, famous for Anguk Station pasta, was about a 5-minute walk uphill from Exit 2 of Anguk Station. Once you turn into this alley, there's Kkangtong Mandu and the Anguk branch of Gat It, so it's already a hot alley haha. When I visited this alley on a weekend, the whole place had a wait so I couldn't get in even though I wanted to, but coming for the weekday lunch opening rush let me get in with no trouble.

Photo menu board in front of Concasse Anguk

There's a photo menu board out front so you can browse comfortably before going in. But what was really great here was that every single dish was plated like art haha. It felt more like looking at an art piece than eating food! I came here on a date with my mom, and she was so satisfied.

Green plants by the entrance and wood-tone hanok interior

Concasse Anguk's hanok interior and seating

Stepping inside, the first thing that greets you is lush green plants! The interior is so tasteful. The quiet stillness of the hanok combined with the greenery is really healing. The wood-tone interior also adds a lot to the mood haha. The ceiling is open in the center, so you get cool AC air but still feel like you're outdoors.

Interior of Concasse Anguk with an open ceiling and group seating

This is the group seating area! We sat at a 4-person table — even arriving at 11:30am on a weekday opening rush, we barely managed to grab a 4-person table. Any later and we might not have gotten a seat haha. Concasse really is already famous as an Anguk Station pasta restaurant~

The table setting is so upscale and clean too~~ I'll get to this shortly, but the table has a marble-like feel and a color that photographs beautifully — food photos turn out amazing. Instant Instagram-upload material haha. Feels like the owner put real thought into details like this too.

The three dishes ordered at Concasse Anguk

Revealing the menu at Concasse, the Anguk pasta restaurant~~ From researching blogs beforehand, it seemed like most people always order the lasagna and potato gnocchi. So we picked those two, and for the third dish we tried the seaweed mackerel pasta that my mom wanted. Seaweed mackerel pasta was truly a combination I'd never seen in my life, so I was pretty excited haha.

After chatting a bit while we waited, our lasagna, potato gnocchi, and seaweed mackerel pasta arrived. Every single dish was so pretty, with standout colors and plating! It's been a while since I've seen an Anguk pasta restaurant with visuals this pretty haha.

Plating of Concasse Anguk's signature lasagna

Concasse Anguk's signature rolled lasagna

First, the signature menu of Concasse, famous as an Anguk Station pasta restaurant — the lasagna! Concasse's lasagna wasn't the square shape we typically imagine, but rolled up so you could comfortably eat it bite by bite!

Cross-section of rolled lasagna with ragu sauce

Inside the lasagna was packed full of a deeply savory ragu sauce, and with every bite you could taste the meaty depth of the ragu — really delicious! No wonder people come to Concasse and order so much lasagna haha.

Tube-shaped pasta noodles and mackerel fillets in seaweed mackerel pasta

Seaweed mackerel pasta: is the mackerel fishy?

Next, the seaweed mackerel pasta I was trying for the first time! On thick, round tube-shaped pasta noodles, mackerel fillets were scattered here and there. The sauce had plenty of seaweed sprinkled over it, giving it incredible savory depth~

Close-up of mackerel pasta sprinkled with seaweed

Most importantly, the big question was whether the mackerel would have a fishy taste — and it had zero fishiness, genuinely delicious. Surprisingly, the mackerel paired really well with the pasta noodles too. The nuttiness of the mackerel, the chewiness of the tube noodles, and the salty umami of the seaweed were completely my style! After eating the lasagna and gnocchi for a while, you can start to get tired of the richness, but having a bite of the seaweed mackerel pasta now and then felt totally refreshing haha.

Potato gnocchi plated on a black table

The other signature: potato gnocchi

Lastly, Concasse's other signature, potato gnocchi~ Looking this pretty, how could you not try it? The plating is so pretty. This isn't a menu stock photo haha, it's a photo I took myself haha. The table is dark-toned so food photos turned out really well, which felt satisfying.

Round potato gnocchi with creamy sauce

The potato gnocchi came out round and small, and taking a bite, unlike the usual chewy gnocchi, this one had a bit of bounce and crispness. Eating it with the creamy sauce was so, so delicious~~ The strong potato flavor came through, and my mom loved it.

Black gnocchi, likely made with squid ink dough, with grilled mushrooms and tomatoes

There was also black gnocchi, which seemed to have squid ink mixed into the dough. Eating it together with grilled mushrooms and tomatoes was completely great — confirmed as one of the best Anguk Station pasta restaurants.

Table at Concasse Anguk after finishing the meal

Who is Concasse Anguk best for?

I really enjoyed my meal at Concasse, the Anguk Station pasta restaurant! With such a great atmosphere, interior, and menu lineup, it seems like a great place for a proposal or a blind date near Anguk Station. It'd also be great for treating someone to a nice meal! If you want to enjoy a relaxed weekday brunch, I highly recommend Concasse, the Anguk Station restaurant :)
