À la carte pork plate and pumpkin sikhye, Milyang: Ilpum Irojeong
In short
Ilpum Irojeong is a sanghwang loach soup (chueotang) Korean restaurant on the first floor of the Beomchang Building on Baengmin-ro in Milyang, Gyeongnam. On a weekend lunch with family, the writer skipped the set menus and ordered à la carte instead — sanghwang loach soup at 10,000 won, Korean beef seaweed soup at 11,000 won, a full plate of boiled pork at 24,000 won and grilled mackerel — plus the self-serve side bar and a sweet pumpkin sikhye dessert. Ilpum Irojeong often has a wait, so arrive a little early; it is a solid choice for a meal out with parents.

Where is Ilpum Irojeong in Milyang, and what are its hours and parking?
75-1 Baengmin-ro, Beomchang Building 1F, Miryang-si, Gyeongsangnam-do Hours 11:00–21:00 Break time 15:30–17:00 Last order 20:30 *Closed on Chuseok (Sept 25)
Parking is available on the building's first floor, but there aren't many spots. We parked in the empty lot across the street~
It was weekend lunchtime, and right after we got in, the waiting line started. There were quite a lot of families and older folks. The inside was already packed with customers. It's not a huge place, but there seemed to be seating further inside too. If you don't want to wait, I'd recommend heading over a bit early.

Can you order à la carte at Ilpum Irojeong? Loach soup, beef seaweed soup, boiled pork
It's not just set menus, there's à la carte too! Sanghwang loach soup ₩10,000 Korean beef seaweed soup ₩11,000 Since they have seaweed soup, it's totally possible to eat here with kids~~~

You can also order boiled pork on its own. Boiled pork (half plate) 160g+ ₩12,000 Boiled pork (full plate) 320g+ ₩24,000
Instead of a set menu, we went à la carte! We ordered: Sanghwang loach soup Korean beef seaweed soup Boiled pork (full plate) Grilled mackerel A lot of people seemed to be eating the set menus though. I guess it's because the composition is good and the loach soup is the main thing??

I thought it was barley tea, but apparently it's tea brewed from sanghwang mushroom! No special taste, tastes basically like water, not very strong.

The 24,000 won boiled pork plate, best topped with seasoned radish salad
Even the plate came out warmed, and the boiled pork was served first. The portion was really generous. My daughter and I only eat the lean parts, and there was plenty of it, so we were super satisfied hahahaha. The kimchi that came with it was tasty too, and that thing next to the garlic and pepper — that's radish salad (muchae) — topping the pork with it is absolutely the best!!!!

Self-serve side dish bar and turmeric rice at Ilpum Irojeong
You use the self-serve bar for extra side dishes~~~ They had everything else, but I was a bit disappointed there was no radish salad there! The kimchi and diced radish kimchi (kkakdugi) were both delicious, so I went back for seconds. Oh, and that pepper-doenjang paste — my hand kept reaching for it too.

Oh, the rice is apparently turmeric rice. I wondered if the kids might reject it, but they ate it just fine? Hahaha

How were the sanghwang loach soup and Korean beef seaweed soup?
The seaweed soup and loach soup both came out bubbling. I'm not sure if the loach soup is naturally thick, or if it got extra reduced while cooking alongside the seaweed soup, but the broth felt like it had reduced quite a lot hahahaha. But looking at other tables, it seems like it's naturally a bit like this.

Cleaned it out completely,,,!! My husband doesn't usually eat that much, so the fact that he finished that whole earthenware bowl means it was really good.
I ordered the Korean beef seaweed soup to share with the kids, and it was a rich yet clean soup with a light sprinkle of perilla seeds. Personally I don't like seaweed soup with oil floating on top, but this one wasn't like that at all, so I really liked it. The beef was tender with no off smell either, quite good.

The grilled mackerel wasn't huge, but it was seasoned just right, good as a side to go with rice. Though the kids preferred the boiled pork, so the mackerel ended up a bit neglected hahahaha.

Dessert at Ilpum Irojeong: sweet pumpkin sikhye and gangjeong
There's dessert too. That sweet pumpkin sikhye (rice punch) is really tasty — slightly thick, it's the perfect finish. There's also kangjeong (rice puff snack) next to it, which is great for keeping the baby quiet hahaha.
Ilpum Irojeong is already a well-known spot for loach soup — I'd definitely recommend taking your parents here!!
