Yeonhwa Maeul Kkomak Bibimbap is a go-to spot for mulhoe (raw fish in cold, spicy broth) in Gangneung, where you can eat cockle bibimbap and mulhoe made with seasonal raw fish at the same table.
It sits in the quiet scenery of Punghoo Village, and there's a private parking lot right in front, which made it an easy place to visit by car.

When I searched for cockle bibimbap in Gangneung, the well-known places came up first. But famous spots sometimes mean waiting during meal times or worrying about parking, so this time I looked for a more low-key, local cockle bibimbap place where I could eat at ease. That's how I found Yeonhwa Maeul Kkomak Bibimbap. At first it felt like it was out on the edge of Gangneung, but it's only about 15 minutes by car from Jeongdongjin Station and about 13 minutes from Gangneung Station, so it turned out to be less out of the way than I expected.
Is parking easy at Yeonhwa Maeul Kkomak Bibimbap?
Yeonhwa Maeul Kkomak Bibimbap has its own private lot right in front, so I could walk in without worrying about parking at all. It's about 11 minutes from Gangneung Jungang Market and about 5 minutes from Maple Beach, so it's easy to fit into a Gangneung travel route.

With a lotus pond and quiet village scenery nearby, the place had a relaxed atmosphere that felt different from a downtown restaurant.
What is the restaurant like inside?
Inside, Yeonhwa Maeul Kkomak Bibimbap felt clean and comfortable overall. The tables were spaced out generously, so it looked good for a family meal, and comfortable even with a bigger group.

High chairs were also ready, so it looked like a good option for families with kids too. My husband and I visited a bit past lunchtime, around 1pm.

We were the only customers there at the time, so we could eat at ease with no wait at all. On one side of the restaurant, warm lotus leaf tea was set out to drink.
What comes in the 48,000-won set for two?
We ordered the 2-person set at Yeonhwa Maeul Kkomak Bibimbap for ₩48,000. It comes with a medium cockle bibimbap and a serving of assorted mulhoe, so you can try both dishes at once.

I liked not having to agonize over whether to order cockle bibimbap or mulhoe.

How do you eat the cockle bibimbap?
The cockle bibimbap at Yeonhwa Maeul Kkomak Bibimbap came out on a large plate, with seasoned cockles and rice piled generously side by side. The cockles were plump and chewy, and the spicy, salty seasoning went well with the rice.

You can just mix it all together, but I also tried wrapping rice and cockles in gim (dried seaweed) and perilla leaves for a bite-sized wrap.

With the nuttiness of the gim and the aroma of the perilla leaf added in, it tasted different from eating the cockles on their own — in a good way.

If you visit with kids, they'll leave the peppers out on request, which is good to keep in mind for a family meal.

How does the assorted mulhoe taste?
The assorted mulhoe at Yeonhwa Maeul Kkomak Bibimbap apparently includes seasonal raw fish depending on the time of year, like flounder, mullet, and yellowtail.

Even in photos, the bowl was packed full of raw fish and vegetables, with abalone on top too, so the ingredients were quite varied.

We ate the crunchy vegetables and chewy raw fish together in the tangy, spicy broth, then finished by adding thin wheat noodles at the end.

Going back and forth between the spicy, salty cockle bibimbap and the refreshing mulhoe, the 2-person set combo worked really well.
A look at the side dishes
There were several side dishes as well. The owner, who is a trained Korean and Western cuisine chef, makes the side dishes personally, and some of the ingredients are from her own farm, so the side dish lineup can apparently change with the seasons.

A warm seaweed soup also came out, and it went nicely alongside the cockle bibimbap.
Final verdict on Yeonhwa Maeul Kkomak Bibimbap
If you're torn between cockle bibimbap and mulhoe in Gangneung, being able to have both together was the standout feature of Yeonhwa Maeul Kkomak Bibimbap.

When we visited, we could eat at ease with no wait, and the private lot made parking easy too.
It's not far by car from Jeongdongjin or downtown Gangneung, so it's worth checking out whether you're a traveler looking for a Gangneung mulhoe spot or trying to find a place locals actually eat at.
