Sejong izakaya with a warm oden nabe: Yaki Naseong Branch

In short

Yaki Naseong Branch is an izakaya in Naseong-dong, Sejong, serving a premium seafood platter with unlimited gamtae and oden nabe. We had fatty tuna, sweet shrimp, uni, sushi rice, and added udon noodles to the 25,000-won nabe. Verdict: a great pick for fresh seafood and a broth that stays warm for ages.

Yaki Naseong’s exterior and how to reserve

We’re self-proclaimed Naseong-dong guardians who go to Naseong-dong as casually as eating a meal, and since Yaki is on the second floor, we had always looked up at it and said how pretty the interior looked. We visited once in May? too, but I remember not being able to get a seat because it was full.

How do you make a reservation?

Yaki Naseong Branch reservation information

Since it’s the kind of bar with room-like seating, reserving ahead lets you claim a spacious spot! It’s easy through Naver Booking. You can also visit without a reservation~

It isn’t a bar divided entirely into private rooms: the wall-side seating has partitions, while the middle seating is open like a hall. The wall-side spots are very spacious and can seat up to eight, so I recommend it for a group company dinner too.

I only photographed our table and somehow have no overall restaurant photos ㅠㅠ Our table was the largest of the room-style seats, so we got lucky, hehe. There were also tables for four across from us, and I totally recommend it for a double-date course!

The kitchen is open, and they were grilling kochi skewers. Inside, it’s totally the upscale izakaya style you see in the photos above—such killer date-night vibes.

Premium seafood platter with unlimited gamtae

Yaki Naseong Branch menu

You can order comfortably from your table, and they have all the things an izakaya should sell! But this is the must-order menu item I recommend here.

Seriously, the very next day one of my friends posted that they were eating this too lol. It is a little pricey, but the ingredients are expensive, so,, considering that—fatty tuna, sweet shrimp, uni, salmon roe, and ankimo are all piled onto one platter. It’s so gorgeous and pretty, with pricey sashimi items usually featured at omakase.

So of course we ordered it right away! Isn’t it so prettyㅠㅠㅠ (They had Sapporo draft beer too, but beer prices matter to us haha.) They also serve crackers with the ankimo, but,, if there’s so much to eat that you’re wondering how to tackle it?

So delicious my hands are shaking ;;

There’s a helpful guide posted at the back on how to eat it deliciously.

First, you basically need to order the sushi rice (+₩3,000). Sashimi alone doesn’t fill you up, right? Eat it as sushi. You need the rice to have the course, and if you follow the owner’s suggested order for enjoying it, it’s one bite, one drink? The drinks just go down, down, down,,

My husband doesn’t usually like seafood much and truly can’t eat it if it tastes fishy, but nothing at Yaki tasted fishy and he enjoyed it; you could really taste the seafood’s freshness! And there’s one more thing I love.

Sweet shrimp and seafood platter
Sweet shrimp innards and sushi rice

My raw shrimp post has somehow passed 1,000 views, and the sweet shrimp here was so delicious tooㅠㅠㅠㅠ The heads were packed with innards, so I put them into the rice and wrapped it all up together! Don’t throw away the innards—make sure you eat them too~

After eating this much, you start thinking, should we have a warm~ brothy dish now that the drinks are kicking in? Actually, that’s a lie—we ate it together from the start. Eating only sashimi makes your stomach too cold,,

Oden nabe that stays warm, plus udon noodles

Oden nabe and udon noodles
Cast-iron oden nabe

We ordered the oden nabe (₩25,000) from the first menu photo and added udon noodles (₩3,000) too haha. When you eat this kind of nabe, don’t forget to add udon noodles.

When I tasted the broth, it wasn’t simply an instant udon-stock flavor—it truly tasted like Japanese-style udon nabe simmered with katsuobushi. And as you can see in the photo, the pot is cast iron, so it didn’t cool down even after the heat was off for a long time. It can get salty fast if you keep boiling it as you eat, but this one didn’t need that, so we enjoyed it deliciously for ages.

I didn’t count, but there seemed to be at least 10 kinds of oden. I’m on team soft oden / my husband is on team bouncy oden. Hahaha. It was so nice to pick ones that suited each of our tastes. And here, my instinct says,, these are frozen udon noodles. Yay^^

Cheers to finish an izakaya meal

And that wraps up another exciting day~ Cheers, everyone~
