Gwangalli ocean-view bar for lemon cream shrimp: Drunken Kitchen

In short

Drunken Kitchen is an ocean-view bar in Gwangalli, Suyeong, Busan. I stopped by alone for lemon cream shrimp, beef brisket and minari stir-fry, and soju, then watched the view of Gwangandaegyo Bridge turn into a nightscape from the same seat. Verdict: delicious drinking food and that bridge view were especially great.

An ocean-view bar in Gwangalli where daytime drinks are welcome

Drunken Kitchen near Gwangalli Beach

Gwangalli Beach, my favorite place in Busan.. 🫶 I went for a solo drink at Drunken Kitchen, an ocean-view bar and great eatery in Gwangalli where you can see Gwangandaegyo Bridge all at once! It opens at 12:30, so it is great for daytime drinks, and it stays open until dawn, making it a good place to hang out late too! As an oldie, I cannot really do that anymore, but the young ones can party until dawn, right.. 💦 (closes at 2 a.m. Sun–Thu and 4 a.m. Fri–Sat)

Entering through Drunken Bar

There was a notice asking guests to enter Drunken Kitchen through Drunken Bar! Following the arrows on the notice, I found the Drunken Bar entrance without any trouble.

They had darts and simple board games, too, and it seemed like such a nice relaxed spot to enjoy whiskey 🥃

Walk into Drunken Kitchen and there is an ocean view spread out before you through the wide-open floor-to-ceiling windows ✨ You do not get drunk on the alcohol, you get drunk on the atmosphere—agree? A Gwangalli bar with the kind of mood that gets flirtations and couples started..❣️

Lemon cream shrimp instead of the sold-out dish

Drunken Kitchen, a cooking bar in Gwangalli, is a Gwangalli Beach favorite that takes its recipes seriously: chefs with culinary-school backgrounds work here, and they even hold a monthly menu-development competition with the staff 👏 I had wanted to try the signature handmade cheese-sauce burger and fries, but they were sadly sold out, so I decided on the lemon cream shrimp, made with freshly squeezed lemons 🍋🍤

There was such a wide selection of whiskey and cognac! Even for an ocean-view bar, the prices seemed more affordable than expected, so it felt like an easy place to visit and enjoy without pressure.

There were also plenty of liqueurs, tequila, cocktails, and highballs, but since I was in Busan, I was all about just one thing: Daeseon soju^^ haha

Drinks with a variety of alcohol options

The complimentary snacks were sugar walnuts and pa-kimchi (green-onion kimchi)! They let me know that the sugar walnuts could not be refilled, and that extra servings needed to be ordered from the menu. Crispy, nutty, and sweet, they would make a nice simple drinking snack too!

This was another table's grilled butter shrimp being prepared, but it was right beside my seat, so I got to watch the teppanyaki-style cooking from my table! They sold a range of hot-plate dishes too, and I think it would be so nice to come as a group and order a variety of things.

As I zoned out watching Gwangandaegyo Bridge outside the window, my snacks and soju arrived.

Lemon cream shrimp that was easy to enjoy

Such pretty-looking lemon cream shrimp 💛 I had come over after a late lunch in Nampo-dong that day, so I chose it as a light drinking snack—and it was exactly the portion and presentation I wanted 🙌

Plump fried shrimp that was crisp outside and tender inside, soft lettuce, and a pleasantly tangy lemon cream made with freshly squeezed lemon juice—it was the kind of flavor that brings even a lost appetite back 🤤

The lemon cream shrimp brought my appetite right back, so I forgot I was full and added one more snack 🫪

Beef brisket and minari stir-fry that paired well with soju

Thin-sliced beef brisket stir-fried in sweet-and-salty yaki sauce, with fragrant minari (water celery) and Sriracha sauce! It paired well with soju, but I think it would make a great beer snack too 〰️

Gwangandaegyo Bridge views from day into night

As I had one, then two drinks with the tasty snacks, the sun set before I knew it—and I could see the night view of Gwangandaegyo Bridge right from the seat where I had been sitting.

With Gwangandaegyo Bridge's incredible night ocean view as my drinking companion, I polished off two bottles of soju all by myself.. 🫣
