Hongdae Exit 9 Korean BBQ, 600g set taste ranking: Gogikkun Gim
In short
Gogikkun Gim Chunbae Hongdae Main Branch is a third-floor Korean BBQ restaurant a short walk from Exit 9 of Hongik University Station in Mapo, Seoul, where hanwoo (Korean beef) and handon (Korean pork) come together in one set. The 600g hanwoo/handon set for two came with half-and-half naengmyeon (cold noodles), diced rice and Asahi draft beer, and the staff grilled every cut from start to finish. My personal ranking was sirloin > pork belly > raw galbisal, and the half-and-half naengmyeon was the smartest order of the night.

Gogikkun Gim Chunbae is a spot where you can enjoy pork and beef together. There's a Hongdae Sup-gil branch too, but I went to the Main Branch since it's closer to Hongdae Station. Staff grilled everything for us, so it was super easy to eat.
Where is Gogikkun Gim Chunbae Hongdae Main Branch, and when is it open?
Gogikkun Gim Chunbae Hongdae Main Branch is open daily from 12:00 to 23:00, and parking isn't available. Just walk straight out from Exit 9 of Hongik University Station. Keep in mind there's no separate parking.

Gogikkun Gim Chunbae is on the 3rd floor, so you go up the stairs.
On the way up haha, dim and moody lighting.

What is the restaurant like inside? Private wood-toned seating
The seats at Gogikkun Gim Chunbae Hongdae Main Branch are set up to feel a bit private. This reminded me of the bars I used to go to when I was younger haha, so nostalgic. Overall it's wood-toned with a slightly dark yellow lighting mood!?

The basic setting includes lettuce wraps, shredded scallion, baek-kimchi (white kimchi), myeongi-namul (wild garlic leaves), scallion kimchi and other side dishes that go well with meat. The scallion kimchi was especially good.

Looking at the menu, we ordered the hanwoo/handon set for two, half-and-half naengmyeon, diced rice, and Asahi draft beer.

What comes in the 600g hanwoo and handon set for two?
The Gogikkun Gim Chunbae hanwoo/handon set for two comes to 600g total: pork belly 150g, raw galbisal 250g, and today's hanwoo 200g. Today's hanwoo turned out to be sirloin. Not sure if the cut changes daily.

Staff grilling service: sirloin goes on the grill first
They grilled everything piece by piece for us. We could eat comfortably without lifting a finger haha. They started with the sirloin!!
The sirloin's color looked amazing. It was grilled perfectly too, so it was the best... The sirloin melted in my mouth, so delicious. Beef really is beef.

They cut the beef into big pieces. They asked if we wanted it cut smaller, but we said it was fine! Meat tastes best in big pieces~~ They grilled it so well that we ate it happily.

Asahi draft beer with the beef
The Asahi draft was cold and, more than anything, incredibly smooth. It tasted just like the beer I had in Japan!! Seriously so smooth, I think it's the first time I've had beer like this in Korea... If you like beer, definitely order this!!!

They grilled mushrooms too, and they were really tasty. Great aroma and a chewiness almost like meat.

What is in the half-and-half naengmyeon (cold noodles)?
While eating the meat, the half-and-half naengmyeon arrived. I wondered what it would be, and it turned out to be half mul-naengmyeon (cold noodle soup) and half bibim-naengmyeon (spicy cold noodles), like jjajangmyeon-and-jjamppong combos. Never seen this before, so it was fun haha.
Each of us mixing our own haha. It's a perfect menu when you can't decide between mul-naengmyeon and bibim-naengmyeon, or want both.

The noodles were chewy and the broth was refreshing. The bibim version was a bit spicy, but personally I liked the bibim-naengmyeon more than the mul-naengmyeon.

Putting meat on top of the bibim-naengmyeon, that's the truth!! So good.

How were the raw galbisal and pork belly?
Next they grilled the raw galbisal for us. It looked really tasty!! They kept moving around and paying attention so it wouldn't burn, which I appreciated.

Once cooked, they pulled the meat forward for easy eating. The raw galbisal was fresh and delicious too.

Well-grilled raw galbisal! It went really well dipped in myeoljeot (fermented anchovy sauce).

Lastly, the pork belly. I liked the pork belly more than the raw galbisal.

The pork belly was grilled well too, so we enjoyed it. Pork really calls for a wrap!! Wrapping it with all sorts of ingredients is really the way to go haha.

Finishing the meal with diced rice
We finished with diced rice — it's fried rice with diced radish kimchi, not spicy, and a nice way to end the meal.
It was a touch salty, but honestly all restaurant food these days seems salty haha. There was a lot of seaweed flakes sprinkled on top, which gave it a nutty, savory finish.

Eating this on top of everything else made me really full. The meat wasn't a small portion either, so we ate very well and got very full haha.
Is Gogikkun Gim Chunbae Hongdae worth it? My taste ranking
If you want to try pork and beef together in Hongdae, I'd recommend Gogikkun Gim Chunbae. The Main Branch was more accessible since it's closer to Hongdae Station. All the sides were delicious too, especially the half-and-half naengmyeon — a genius move! The meat ranking, for reference, was sirloin > pork belly > raw galbisal 😊
