In short
Gogikkun Gim Chunbae Hongdae Main Branch is a hanwoo (Korean beef) and handon (Korean pork) BBQ restaurant on the 3rd and 4th floors of a building about a 7-minute walk from Hongik University Station in Mapo, Seoul. On a weekday dinner reservation, the hanwoo/handon 2-person SET (600g) came to 118,000 won, with half-and-half naengmyeon (cold noodles) at 7,000 won and kkakttukbap (diced rice) at 8,000 won, and the staff grilled every cut from start to finish. It had been a while since I really craved grilled meat,,, so I went straight to a BBQ restaurant haha. This time I visited Gogikkun Gim Chunbae Hongdae Main Branch, where you can enjoy hanwoo (Korean beef) and handon (Korean pork) together at once!
The staff grilled the meat for us themselves, and there were plenty of meal menu options too, so I left feeling completely full ⊹˚. ♡ Today I'll introduce the set menu and side dishes at this Hongdae restaurant, Gogikkun Gim Chunbae Hongdae Main Branch!
Where is Gogikkun Gim Chunbae Hongdae Main Branch, and what are its hours?

Where's the entrance? Up the stairs beside the 1st-floor clothing shop
Gogikkun Gim Chunbae Hongdae Main Branch is located on the 3rd and 4th floors of the building, so first-time visitors might get a little lost trying to find the entrance hahaha

If you look next to the clothing shop Miromiro on the 1st floor, there's a staircase leading upstairs!

As you go up the stairs, you'll see this sign pointing to Gogikkun Gim Chunbae on the 3rd floor

The wooden sign paired with the red wall gives off an old-school BBQ restaurant vibe. You just open the wooden door and walk in haha
Inside the restaurant: partitioned tables on the 3rd and 4th floors

Once inside, the space was bigger than I expected! Wooden tables and partitions ran throughout, giving off that familiar old-school BBQ restaurant feel. Each table had high partitions, which seemed great for dining with a group! I visited on a weekday evening, and it was relatively quiet
We had reserved in advance, so the side dishes were already set up at our table!

White kimchi, green onion kimchi, pickled onions, myeongi namul (wild garlic leaves), green onion salad, lettuce, and other side dishes to pair with the meat were all prepared. There was also salt, wasabi, ssamjang, and myeoljeot (fermented anchovy sauce), so I could eat the meat in a bunch of different ways

Then the charcoal fire came to the table. With myeoljeot placed right on the charcoal, all that was left was waiting for the meat...hahaha

What comes in the 118,000 won beef-and-pork set for two
Since we wanted both pork and beef, we ordered the hanwoo/handon 2-person set! And since meat alone would've left us wanting more, we also ordered a meal menu hahaha
- 📍 Hanwoo/Handon 2-person SET (600g) — ₩118,000 / pork belly 150g + fresh galbisal 250g + today's hanwoo 200g
- 📍 Half-and-half naengmyeon — ₩7,000
- 📍 Dice rice — ₩8,000

The meat finally arrived!! Pork belly and beef came together on a black plate, and the plating alone was so pretty, wasn't it?? Shiitake mushrooms and corn came along too. Being able to eat hanwoo and handon at once was already great, but seeing it all on one plate made it look even more appetizing ⸜(。˃ ᵕ ˂ )⸝♡
And the staff grilled the meat for us from start to finish! Normally you're busy flipping the meat and checking if it's cooked, but here you can just sit comfortably and wait, which was nice haha

Hanwoo of the day, 200g, with salt and wasabi
First, the beef went onto the charcoal. Since it had been a while since I'd eaten beef, watching it grill made me want to eat it fast,,,

Once cooked, the meat was lined up neatly along the edge of the grill. They really grilled it well!!

I tried a piece right away and it was seriously delicious,,, maybe because it had been a while since I'd had beef, it tasted even better hahaha. First I dipped it lightly in just salt, then tried it with wasabi. Beef tastes great even eaten this simply, right? haha

Pork belly and fresh galbisal with lettuce wraps and myeongi namul
The pork belly and fresh galbisal were also grilled deliciously. This time I wrapped it in lettuce and paired it with myeongi namul and green onion salad. Once with salt, once with wasabi, once as a wrap, once with myeongi namul,,, it was nice how the same meat could taste different depending on what you paired it with. I guess meat is delicious no matter how you eat it hahaha
Especially if you're looking for Hongdae samgyeopsal (grilled pork belly) but can't give up beef either, this kind of hanwoo/handon set combination would be a welcome find!

Half-and-half naengmyeon at 7,000 won and kkakttukbap at 8,000 won
While eating the meat, our half-and-half naengmyeon (mixed cold noodles) arrived! As the name suggests, it's a menu with half water naengmyeon and half bibim (mixed) naengmyeon. Whenever I order naengmyeon at a BBQ restaurant, I always agonize over whether to get water naengmyeon or bibim naengmyeon,,, but here you can have both, so there's no need to agonize

On one side was cool water naengmyeon, and on the other was red-seasoned bibim naengmyeon. It was great trying each type of naengmyeon alongside the meat haha. You can't skip naengmyeon while eating BBQ, right!! For anyone torn between the two types, the half-and-half naengmyeon combination seems perfect

The last menu that came out was dice rice! At first, just from the name, I was curious what kind of dish it would be — turns out it felt like a fried rice made with diced kkakdugi (radish kimchi),,,! The rice had kkakdugi and meat mixed in, topped with dried seaweed flakes, sesame seeds, and green onion
No matter how much meat I eat, without rice I always feel like the meal isn't quite finished haha. Dice rice was exactly what filled that gap. If you know the feeling of needing fried rice after meat to feel like you've had a proper meal, you'll get it haha. We cooled off with the half-and-half naengmyeon and finished off satisfyingly with the dice rice!
Who should book Gogikkun Gim Chunbae Hongdae Main Branch?
I visited Gogikkun Gim Chunbae Hongdae Main Branch craving grilled meat after a while! I got to eat hanwoo and handon at once, and since the staff grilled everything themselves, I could eat comfortably. It was also fun pairing the meat with salt, wasabi, myeongi namul, and green onion salad in different ways haha. If you're looking for a Hongdae restaurant where you can enjoy hanwoo and handon together, this menu setup might be worth checking out ˗ˏˋ ♡ ˎˊ˗
