Hi everyone : ) I was looking for good meat in Hongdae and ended up at Gogikkun Gim Chunbae Hongdae Main Branch. It's such a famous spot that I was curious, and once I went, I could see exactly why — from the quality of the meat to the service.

This is a place where you can try top-grade hanwoo (Korean beef) and hanudon (Korean pork) grilled over charcoal, all in one sitting.
How corkage free works at Gogikkun Gim Chunbae Hongdae Main Branch
Gogikkun Gim Chunbae Hongdae Main Branch is a rare corkage-free restaurant these days. Besides the drinks sold there, you can bring your own with no limit on drink type or bottle count — really handy if you're with drinking buddies.

Booth seats, group tables and the banchan (side dishes)
Walking inside, every table had partitions, which made it comfortable for a date or a cozy chat over dinner with one other person.

Further inside there were spacious group tables too, which looked great for gatherings or work dinners.
Since we'd reserved ahead, the basic side dishes were already neatly set at our table when we arrived.

Crunchy baek-kimchi (white kimchi), pickled onions, tangy green onion kimchi, and seasoned green onions — plenty of banchan (side dishes) that go great with meat.

The menu and the hanwoo/handon set for two
The menu at Gogikkun Gim Chunbae Hongdae Main Branch is split into hanudon, hanwoo, and set menus. The pork options include pork belly, pork jowl, skirt meat, pork shoulder, and fresh short rib; the beef options include 1++ grade hanwoo sirloin, chuck flap, short rib meat, and brisket point. The set menu is a nice mix of both hanwoo and hanudon.
Looking at the menu, I wanted to try everything and couldn't decide. Being able to pick and mix hanwoo and hanudon to your taste was this place's own advantage.

When you can't decide what to eat, a set is always a safe choice, right? We went with the hanwoo/hanudon 2-person SET.

It's a generous spread: 150g of pork belly, 250g of fresh short rib, and 200g of hanwoo.

After ordering, we didn't wait long before strong-burning charcoal was brought out.

Staff grilling service from start to finish
The moment the meat arrived, the visuals grabbed me right away. The marbling on the plate was no joke — you could tell it was fresh just by looking at the marbling!
What was most convenient, though, was that a staff member grilled everything from start to finish! If you grill it yourself, it's easy to burn, but with a professional's touch, each cut was grilled to the perfect point, so all we had to do was sit back and eat — so easy.

The grilling order: hanwoo, then short rib, then pork belly
Beef came first, of course! I picked up a piece of hanwoo grilled just right over the charcoal, and the moment it hit my mouth, it melted away softly.

Every bite was packed with juice — so delicious.

The thick-cut fresh short rib had a springy, lively bite while staying juicy — nutty with each chew, and the charcoal aroma soaked in was quite the charm.

We finished with the thick pork belly! The skin side was chewy and the meat was tender. Topped with a bit of green onion kimchi, there wasn't a moment I got tired of it.

Sides: dice-cut rice and half-and-half naengmyeon
Meat alone felt like it wasn't quite enough, so we ordered sides too! The dice rice came in a large earthenware bowl, and true to its name, the portion was generous.

The spicy-sweet, rich sauce soaked into every grain of rice, so even when full, my chopsticks kept going back for more.

And the half-and-half naengmyeon was great because you get to try both mul-naengmyeon (cold noodle soup) and bibim-naengmyeon (spicy mixed cold noodles) at once!

Alternating between a cool bite of mul-naengmyeon and a spicy bite of bibim-naengmyeon cleaned up my mouth after all that rich meat.

Is Gogikkun Gim Chunbae Hongdae worth it?
Gogikkun Gim Chunbae Hongdae Main Branch is a place where the meat quality and taste are definitely above average! With the convenient grilling service and corkage-free policy on top, my overall satisfaction was high.
If you're looking for a proper charcoal Korean BBQ spot in Hongdae, I recommend Gogikkun Gim Chunbae Hongdae Main Branch : )
