Gwacheon duck BBQ with a scallop side for early dinner: Deo Chadol

In short

Deo Chadol is a duck brisket BBQ restaurant on Dwitgol2-ro in Gwacheon, Gyeonggi. After a day out at Seoul Land and Seoul Grand Park, the writer stopped by for an early dinner with her child and ordered two servings of duck brisket, doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) and a side of scallops; the thinly sliced duck brisket cooked in seconds and was easy for a child to eat. Wrapping scallops and minari (water dropwort) together was the best bite of the meal.

Here's my review of Deo Chadol, where we stopped for dinner during a trip to Gwacheon with my kid.

Why Deo Chadol for dinner after a day out in Gwacheon

Gwacheon is a place we end up visiting pretty often with our kid, since there's so much to do — Seoul Land, Seoul Grand Park, the National Gwacheon Science Museum. This time, while figuring out what to eat for dinner, I found Deo Chadol, a place serving grilled duck brisket, and went :)

Parking in front of Deo Chadol, with staff guiding cars

Deo Chadol has plenty of parking space right in front of the building, and there's staff to help you park, so even if it's full you can park without any trouble.

Nearly full even at an early dinner

True to a popular restaurant, they have waiting seats. I went earlier than typical dinner time, and it was already almost full — and by the time we finished eating and left, there was a wait...!

The interior was big with plenty of seats too.

And there's a private room too, which seems great for family gatherings.

Why Deo Chadol works with kids: a self bar with a microwave

Deo Chadol has a self bar on one side, plus a microwave, so it seemed convenient for parents with babies eating baby food to warm it up!

At the self bar you can grab extra side dishes, and even though it's a heavily used space, staff kept tidying and wiping it down to keep it clean. There are baby spoons and forks too, and a kids' chair!

Ordering duck brisket for two plus doenjang jjigae

You order through the kiosk at the table. I wanted the jumulleok (seasoned meat), but since it's marinated, it seemed hard to share with a kid, so we ordered two servings of duck brisket with doenjang jjigae!

Two servings of raw duck brisket as ordered

Deo Chadol is a bit different from your typical grilled duck place — here you grill thinly sliced duck brisket. I like duck meat but this was my first time trying duck brisket, so I was curious how it would taste haha. Doesn't it look delicious!?

They also give you minari, mushrooms, and onion.

Duck brisket sliced thin enough to cook in seconds

The duck brisket comes sliced really thin, true to its name, so it cooks almost as soon as it hits the grill. Waiting for meat to cook is its own struggle when you're with a kid at a BBQ place lol, so it was great being able to grill it quick and eat right away.

Looking at this photo of the golden-brown duck brisket makes me want more...

The scallop side, wrapped together with minari

Since it was my daughter Sia's first time trying duck meat, I ordered the side scallops just in case she didn't like it lol.

Side order of scallops

I didn't have high hopes for the scallops, but wrapping the duck brisket with minari and scallop together was seriously amazing. Definitely order it together and try it lol, so good...

How the duck brisket at Deo Chadol tasted

The golden-brown grilled duck brisket was thin, so it wasn't chewy — it was soft. Luckily Sia ate it well too! It has that distinct savory duck flavor without being overly greasy, so I kept reaching for more. And the minari was the real kicker — it went so well with the duck brisket!

A soft, well-cooked bite of duck brisket

When grilled until crispy, the edges get a little crunchy and even more savory, so I preferred it well-done. It was great wrapped in lettuce too, and paired well with the side dishes that came out.

Quick to cook, delicious, and good for you since it's duck meat — the ultimate food. I want it every day lol.

We also ordered doenjang jjigae along with the meat — you really can't skip the doenjang jjigae plus rice combo with grilled meat lol. Eating warm doenjang jjigae with rice between bites of duck brisket made for a satisfying, filling meal.

A dinner pick after Seoul Land or the science museum

Lots of people come to Gwacheon with kids for Seoul Land or the science museum area. After a full day of playing, both parents and kids get hungry, so if you're looking for a Gwacheon restaurant near Seoul Land for a hearty meat dinner, Deo Chadol is worth checking out. We visited with our kid and it turned out more comfortable than expected — best of all, she ate the duck brisket well! Next time we're out in Gwacheon and craving duck, I'll definitely stop by again :)
