Seongnae-dong seafood bar in Seoul: abalone ramyeon at Bulhyanggi
In short
Bulhyanggi is a makchang (grilled pork intestine) and seafood bar in Seongnae-dong, in the jjukkumi alley near Cheonho Station in Gangdong, Seoul. Four of us stopped in for a second round and ordered squid nurungji sundae (crispy rice and blood sausage) for 26,000 won, sweet egg French toast for 15,000 won and seafood ramyeon with a whole abalone for 13,000 won, all with soju, and the ramyeon broth was the clean, bracing highlight. If you want makchang and seafood at the same table, Bulhyanggi is worth the walk.

Today I want to write about "Bulhyanggi," the Seongnae-dong spot in Cheonho I go to whenever I'm craving squid nurungji sundae (crispy squid-stuffed sausage). It's a bar I visit often — the makchang (grilled beef intestines) is delicious and so is the seafood, so if you want to enjoy both, I highly recommend it!

Where is Bulhyanggi? Inside the jjukkumi alley near Cheonho Station
Bulhyanggi is the kind of place you find by walking straight down the jjukkumi (spicy webfoot octopus) alley from Cheonho Station. The tables are round, so a single table can seat 4 to 5 people.

They keep the door open when the weather is cool, which is nice, and with round tables like these you can seat 4 to 5 people at once — groups can also reserve ahead!
Bulhyanggi menu and prices: what four of us ordered

The makchang is great too, but this was our second stop of the night, so we went with mostly seafood dishes. You can enjoy seasonal seafood here, so seafood lovers, I highly recommend it!
- Squid nurungji sundae ₩26,000
- Sweet egg French toast ₩15,000
- Seafood ramyeon ₩13,000
- Soju, beer ₩5,000

The tomato they gave us as a complimentary side dish — such a healthy little snack, haha. We had a few drinks over the tomato while waiting for the food to come out.
Squid nurungji sundae, 26,000 won: the dish to order at Bulhyanggi
The squid nurungji sundae is ₩26,000, and it's the dish I always order whenever I come to Bulhyanggi in Seongnae-dong. It comes with about half a squid's worth, served alongside minari (water celery) and dried radish strips.

Cheers again — the squid nurungji sundae I always order whenever I visit Bulhyanggi, my go-to spot in Seongnae-dong!

It looked like about half a squid's worth, served with minari and dried radish strips on the side. You don't need to go to Sokcho for squid nurungji sundae — just come to Bulhyanggi in Cheonho, Seongnae-dong.

The plump squid grilled crispy made this squid nurungji sundae even more delicious.

It was so big we had to cut it with scissors, haha. The filling inside was packed full and delicious.

Pro tip: it's even better if you pile the dried radish strips and minari on top!

The dried radish strips were so good I kept piling them on, and even ate them as a side snack on their own lol. When I asked, the owner kindly gave us extra, which was great. We originally wanted to order mulhoe (cold raw fish soup), but they were out that day, so while we debated what to get, we first ordered the sweet egg French toast.
Sweet egg French toast, 15,000 won: something sweet with soju
The sweet egg French toast is ₩15,000, and it's what we picked instead when they told us the mulhoe wasn't available. Soft egg-dipped white bread is sprinkled with sugar, and maple syrup and strawberry jam come on the side.

The soft egg-dipped bread sprinkled with sugar was extra sweet, and they gave us maple syrup and strawberry jam on the side, which we drizzled generously on top.

Why is French toast so good when you're drinking?

It's great to nibble on piece by piece, and I love the combo of something sweet with soju, haha.
Seafood ramyeon, 13,000 won: two shrimp and a whole abalone
Bulhyanggi's seafood ramyeon is ₩13,000, and they put in two shrimp plus a really big abalone, so the broth was so refreshing. The bul-ramyeon (spicy fire noodles) comes topped with an egg, and this time I was curious so I ordered the seafood ramyeon instead.

Now that we'd had something sweet, time for some hangover food, right? The bul-ramyeon comes with an egg on top, but this time I was curious and ordered the seafood ramyeon. It had two shrimp in it, plus a really big abalone, so the broth was incredibly refreshing and delicious, haha.

The noodles were cooked perfectly chewy too. We kept the soju coming right along with this.

The plump abalone was delicious too, haha.

And here are the empty soju bottles we so diligently polished off, haha — the soju really flows at Bulhyanggi in Seongnae-dong lol lol lol. This was just the four of us,,,? Haha.

Sohwakhaeng: soju is guaranteed happiness.
If you want to eat makchang and seafood together in Cheonho, I recommend "Bulhyanggi" in Seongnae-dong.
