Paju ssambap restaurant with garlic for gangdoenjang ssam: Simhaksan
In short
Simhaksan Deulkkot Ssambap is a ssambap (lettuce-wrap rice) Korean set-menu restaurant on Dolgoji-gil in Paju, Gyeonggi. The writer ordered the 20,000 won per person deuljeongsik set for two and received stir-fried pork, squid dureuchigi, doenjang stew, gangdoenjang (thick soybean paste) and stone-pot rice, then asked for a side of Korean garlic so every wrap of garlic and gangdoenjang stayed interesting to the last bite. Pumpkin porridge closed the meal like a dessert, and the stone-pot rice turned into nurungji tea.

I was in the Paju area and wanted a solid lunch, so I headed to Simhaksan Deulkkot Ssambap! I didn't even know it was a well-known spot — just walked in — but it was packed and totally satisfying, so I'm leaving a post about it~

Simhaksan Deulkkot Ssambap from outside, and the parking lot

The parking lot at Simhaksan Deulkkot Ssambap is pretty spacious, so I parked with room to spare! Coming in, it kind of felt like the road to Gogiri Valley in Yongin — that whole restaurant-town, day-trip-spot vibe — so it already felt like an outing haha.
Inside the Paju ssambap restaurant: mood and waiting

The moment you walk in, autographs from famous people grab your attention,, that alone builds up the expectations~~
Even though I came outside of lunch rush, it was still pretty crowded. Still, we managed to get a seat with no wait!
Simhaksan Deulkkot Ssambap menu and prices

Deuljeongsik set: ₩20,000 per person └ stir-fried pork + stir-fried squid + doenjang stew + thick soybean paste + stone-pot rice Kkotjeongsik set: ₩26,000 per person └ grilled atka mackerel and mackerel + stir-fried pork + stir-fried squid + doenjang stew + thick soybean paste + stone-pot rice The menu is simple!

You order by scanning the QR code on the table — super convenient haha.

We figured the deuljeongsik set would be plenty, so we ordered it for two! Families seemed to often order the kkotjeongsik set instead, haha.
The self-serve ssam vegetable bar

The ssam greens and peppers at the self-serve bar looked so fresh — I wonder if they grow them themselves!✨
They set up the side dishes for you at first, but if you run low, you can refill them here yourself~

There were also old-fashioned senbei crackers to snack on as dessert — I bet the older folks really love that, haha.
What comes with the deuljeongsik set for two
Nice touch that they served both warm and cold water. The warm water tasted a bit like barley tea, and later when the stone-pot rice arrives, you can turn it into scorched-rice tea~

There were so many side dishes you don't usually make at home — such a treat.

- Braised eggplant
- Seasoned zucchini
- Pickled peppers
- Seasoned laver flakes
- Seasoned gungchae (aster greens)
- Kimchi
- Pumpkin porridge
*Personally, I prefer eating the pumpkin porridge like a dessert after finishing the meal haha. It has that natural sweetness and feels like dessert haha.

Thick soybean paste, stir-fried kimchi, lettuce salad, and doenjang stew too~

Big chunky ingredients and lots of my beloved zucchini — thank you!
Stir-fried pork, squid dureuchigi and stone-pot rice
The stars of the show — squid dureuchigi (spicy stir-fry) and stir-fried pork!! A total feast, and it doesn't even end there

It'd be a shame without the stone-pot rice~
Eating just stir-fried pork alone can get a little monotonous, but having squid dureuchigi alongside made it so much better!

Can't forget that smoky char on the stir-fried pork,,🔥

Asking for garlic to wrap with gangdoenjang
A whole parade of different wraps,, the ssam greens were so fresh that they were delicious no matter how you ate them haha. Maybe it's because I'm getting older,, but garlic is essential, right?🧄 Paired with the thick soybean paste they served, it's absolutely delicious~
+ I asked for garlic separately, and eating it with fresh domestic garlic meant no harsh bite at all — so tasty!
Finishing the stone-pot rice as nurungji tea
After finishing the rice, we wrapped up with a nutty bowl of scorched-rice tea~

Free coffee and ice cream after the meal

On the way out, I noticed a coffee machine along with ice cream on hand too — I really felt taken care of, right to the very end 🎶
Is the deuljeongsik set worth it? Final verdict
💬 One-line review: The deuljeongsik set is genuinely packed with value! For ₩20,000, you get stir-fried pork, squid dureuchigi, doenjang stew, thick soybean paste, and stone-pot rice! The ssam greens are super fresh too~
This menu really suits the days when you want a proper meal with lots of side dishes rather than just one single dish! Especially since you can keep switching things up — pork on the wrap, then squid, then adding the thick soybean paste — so it never got boring, right to the last bite!
If you're looking for somewhere to eat in Paju and Korean food or ssambap comes to mind, how about Simhaksan Deulkkot Ssambap~ It's also close by if you're stopping in after the Paju Outlet, so recommended!
