Cheonho Station bar in Seoul for whelk hotpot and soju: Bulhyanggi
In short
Bulhyanggi is a charcoal-grilled meat and drinking-snack restaurant near Cheonho Station in Seongnae-dong, Gangdong, Seoul. Stopping in for a second round of soju, the writer ordered the wang golbaengi modeum tang (assorted whelk hotpot) for 39,000 won and oijingeo sundae (stuffed squid), and found the broth from the whelks and mussels sharp and clean, with the squid chewy outside and soft inside. Bulhyanggi works well as a second-round spot for snacks and drinks with friends.

Found this place while looking for somewhere good to have a soju round two in Cheonho! There are honestly so many meat restaurants and bars near Cheonho Station.

This time I visited Bulhyanggi, a well-known spot in Seongnae-dong — famous for its makchang (grilled beef intestines) near Cheonho Station!

I just went in for a light drink, but the tasty snacks kept the soju flowing, haha. If you're looking for a second-round bar or a good soju-snack spot near Cheonho Station, this one's worth trying! It was such a comfortable place to chat over good food, perfect for a friend gathering or a second stop — here's my review of Bulhyanggi in Cheonho :)
What kind of place is Bulhyanggi near Cheonho Station?

Bulhyanggi, a bar in Seongnae-dong, lives up to its name (which means "fire fragrance") with meat charcoal-grilled to give off a subtle smoky aroma — makchang, pork belly, pork skin, you name it — making it a great fit for group gatherings or drinking sessions.

The complimentary tomato! Fresh and cool, nice to have lightly before digging into meat or drinking snacks.

Assorted whelk hotpot, 39,000 won: what's in it and how it tastes
Bulhyanggi's assorted whelk hotpot costs ₩39,000. It's generously packed with white whelk, brown whelk, plus mussels and fish cake — looked amazing right from the start.

There's fun in picking out the plump whelks one by one, and with mussels and fish cake mixed in too, it was great for sharing as a drinking snack among a group.

A must-try golbaengi hotpot in Seongnae-dong! Above all, the hot broth was spicy yet refreshing — perfect for a spoonful between bites of meat. The chewy whelk paired with the clean broth is exactly the kind of taste that makes you crave soju!

There was skewered fish cake too, cut into bite-sized pieces — yum yum~

A bite of my favorite white whelk! Chewy but not tough, with a soft texture — the more you chew, the more you get a subtle sweetness and umami.

I heard whelk is also good as a protein snack. The umami from the whelk and mussels combined with a spicy-yet-clean edge that made me feel refreshed with every spoonful!

It wasn't overly salty or heavy — the finish was clean, so my spoon kept going back into the broth.

After digging out all the whelk, it basically turned into a fish cake stew, haha. If you're looking for a proper golbaengi hotpot in Cheonho, I recommend Bulhyanggi's wang golbaengi modeum tang.
Stuffed squid (ojingeo sundae): an unusual snack at a meat restaurant
Bulhyanggi's squid sundae (stuffed squid sausage) came out nicely grilled, savory and golden brown. It's not a dish you commonly see at meat restaurants in Cheonho, which made it an even more welcome snack!

The plump squid was packed full inside, so one bite gave you both the chewy texture of the squid and the mild-flavored filling.

Paired with dried radish strips, the crunchy texture and umami really came alive — so good!

Chewy on the outside, soft on the inside — a snack that seems like it'd please just about anyone. Since it's not a common menu item at meat restaurants, I'd recommend it to anyone looking for something a bit different.
