Here's the thing that quietly stresses me out every time I go on a date in Chungmuro. After a movie or an exhibition, I want dinner somewhere with a nice mood and good food, but when I search, there are just too many options.
This time I was on a Chungmuro date with my boyfriend and we stopped by Baro Pasta Market (바로파스타마켓), close to Chungmuro Station. It has a wide range of pastas and risottos and looked great for a meal with wine, so I wanted to introduce it to anyone looking for a Chungmuro date spot. It's also easy to reach from Dongguk University, so it looked like a decent place for students to meet for lunch or dinner.

Where is Baro Pasta Market?
The address is 210-14 Toegye-ro, Jung-gu, Seoul. Come out of Chungmuro Station Exit 1, face Daehan Cinema, and walk about 50m straight into the alley on the right, where bhc and Sulbing are.
It's really close to Chungmuro Station, so I got there easily without hunting around. After eating, it's also easy to walk on toward Euljiro, so planning a café stop or a stroll afterward feels natural. I think it's a good choice for anyone looking for a Chungmuro restaurant, and for people who want somewhere to stop before or after an Euljiro date.

Or you could take a walk through Namsangol Hanok Village, which is very close, after your meal. It's a lovely route, and honestly it's one I go on a lot.
What's the atmosphere like at Baro Pasta Market? Good for a date?
Inside, there are regular hall tables and a bar table in front of the kitchen. We chose a hall table where we could sit comfortably facing each other, but the bar table by the kitchen looked great too. Sitting side by side for a meal or a glass of wine and conversation would suit the bar table well.

What impressed me most was the open kitchen you can see beyond the bar table. Being able to see the cooking area felt clean and reassuring, and watching the food being made was fun too. The staff were also kind from ordering all the way to the end of the meal, so we felt good the whole date.

What's on the menu at Baro Pasta Market, and how much is it?
We picked two dishes at Baro Pasta Market: the steak basil cream risotto for ₩20,900 and the deep shrimp aglio e olio for ₩17,000. The menu had more pastas and risottos than I expected, and the two of us agonized over it for ages.
There are cream, oil and tomato options, plus dishes with steak and shrimp, so I think a group could each order something different and share.

Prices are as of my visit and may change, so please check the latest menu before you go.

We also ordered ade drinks, which went well with the food and tasted good. We came a bit early in the evening, so we couldn't have wine this time, but judging by the vibe, it looked perfect for pasta with wine. Next time I plan to come later, take it slow, and sit at the bar table with a glass. If you're looking for a place in Chungmuro to enjoy wine and pasta without pressure, it's worth checking the menu.
How is the steak basil cream risotto?
The steak basil cream risotto (₩20,900) is a green basil cream risotto topped with chop steak, house-made dried tomato, cheese and an egg yolk. It was the first dish to arrive that day.

The bowl was full of risotto with moderately cooked chop steak on top, and the colors were so striking that we took photos the moment it hit the table. The basil cream was fragrant but not too heavy, and with the steak added to the soft risotto, one plate felt properly filling.
My boyfriend especially liked this one. We both enjoyed both dishes, but he loves basil, so he said the risotto was a little more his taste. If you like steak and cream risotto together, I think you'd be happy with it.
How is the deep shrimp aglio e olio?
Of the two, the one I enjoyed a bit more was the deep shrimp aglio e olio (₩17,000). It had plenty of shrimp and lots of garlic, which was exactly my taste.

Vegetables and cheese were on top of the noodles, so it felt more generous than a typical oil pasta. The shrimp flavor soaked deep into the oil, yet it wasn't greasy overall, so I kept going back for more. And all that garlic, which I love, made me happy.
I already like oil pasta with shrimp, and as the name says, the shrimp really stands out here. I think it'd be great with a baguette on the side for dipping.
Risotto for my boyfriend, aglio e olio for me. We each preferred a different dish, but in the end we cleaned both plates completely. I'd call that a successful order…

Dongguk University lunch or Chungmuro date: how does it work?
Baro Pasta Market is close to Chungmuro Station and easy to reach from Dongguk University, so it seems well suited to a lunch near campus or a dinner after class. It felt like a place to share dishes with a friend or have a slow date with a partner rather than grab a quick solo meal.
The inside wasn't too noisy or chaotic, so it was good for eating while talking. After a meal in Chungmuro, you can walk to Euljiro for a café or an exhibition and the date course completes itself. If you're after a pasta spot between Chungmuro and Euljiro, or a restaurant with a nice mood near Dongguk University, I think it's worth a visit.

What I liked and what I didn't about Baro Pasta Market
What I liked
- The pasta and risotto menu is varied, and both dishes had distinct flavors, so I was satisfied.
- It's close to Chungmuro Station, so it's easy to get to.
- You can choose a hall table or a bar table depending on your taste.
- The open kitchen lets you see where the food is made, and the staff were kind, so the meal was relaxed.
What I didn't like
The biggest letdown was that we came a little early in the evening, so we couldn't add wine for a nicer mood. But that just gives me a reason to go back; next time I'll sit at the bar table and order wine along with other pastas.
When you want pasta or risotto near Chungmuro Station, are looking for a date restaurant near Dongguk University, or want a nice meal before heading to Euljiro, pick something to your taste at Baro Pasta Market. You'll probably agonize over the menu like we did, but you might end up cleaning both plates too. 🍝
