Gangnam café for post-meal Einspänner: Upper and Under

After eating in Gangnam, I was looking for a café right away and ended up at Upper and Under. It is on Gangnam’s café street, so it was nice and easy to drop in after a meal. When I went, plenty of people were there for drinks, and the atmosphere was nice too.

I tried the Einspänner, a Viennese coffee topped with cream, and iced tea. I especially liked the cream-topped Einspänner.

Upper and Under occupies B1, 1F, and 2F at 28 Gangnam-daero 102-gil, Gangnam-gu, Seoul. Since the café uses the space from B1 through 2F, it was a good place to stop and rest right after eating in Gangnam. There were quite a few people looking for it when I visited too.

I ordered the ₩8,000 Einspänner and ₩7,500 iced tea. Considering café prices in Gangnam these days, it may be helpful to check the menu prices before visiting.

The Einspänner has delicious, generous cream

Of the things I chose, I especially liked the Einspänner. I would recommend it if you enjoy latte-style drinks topped with cream. The portion of cream was generous, and it blended smoothly with the coffee. I also saw lots of people ordering the Einspänner.

The iced tea was nice because it was not too sweet

The iced tea was better than I expected too. It was not intensely sweet like the iced teas I usually have, and that actually suited my taste. It felt a little different from ordinary iced tea, so it could be a good choice for anyone who does not drink coffee.

For dessert at this Gangnam café, try the hwang cheese

Along with the drinks, the desserts were nice to have too, and the hwang cheese (yellow cheese) dessert was delicious.

A strong recommendation if you like a rich hwang cheese flavor! Even if you are full after a meal and coffee alone feels a little lacking, it was nice to order one dessert and share it.

If you are looking for a café after eating in Gangnam

Upper and Under was a good place to continue straight from a meal to a café in Gangnam without going out of the way.

Since it is on Gangnam-daero 102-gil, it is easy to get to right after eating nearby, and the space spanning B1 through 2F was another plus. What stayed with me were the Einspänner’s generous cream, the not-too-sweet iced tea, and the hwang cheese dessert.

And when making plans in Gangnam, deciding where to drink coffee after a meal is surprisingly important, right? Upper and Under was in such a convenient spot after eating that we naturally ended up stopping by. After trying it, the Einspänner was definitely what I remembered most. The generous cream tasted great with the coffee, and pairing it with the hwang cheese dessert made for a nice sweet and savory combination too.

The iced tea was not nearly as sweet as I expected, so it was refreshing after a meal. Even if someone in your group does not drink coffee, choosing a menu item should not be difficult. If you are planning a meal-and-café course in Gangnam, give it a try. I think I would order the Einspänner again on my next visit. If you like hwang cheese, I recommend having the dessert too.
