Gimhae café for Ethiopian drip coffee and ciabatta: Peer a Peer

I’d wanted to go everrr since it opened, and fi-nal-ly!!! Peer a Peer was even better on a beautiful day. As expected. It was exactly that good—and Jillye’s Peer a Peer is somewhere I want to visit again.

An old factory building and outdoor terrace

Peer a Peer transforms a more-than-40-year-old, 350-pyeong former factory into a new, nature-connected space, with a tastefully faded ivory exterior and rough concrete floors while preserving the traces of the old building.

In the wide-open area in front of the building, outdoor tables and white parasols sat among a large tree and pampas grass. Since the weather was cool, some guests were having tea outside~

About 15 minutes from Gimhae Outlet and Clayarch Gimhae Museum. A large café that also makes a great drive from Jangyu or Busan!

There’s a large parking lot right in front of the café, so no need to worry about parking.

A place to linger with books and exhibitions

This is a stay-and-experience cultural space where you can enjoy coffee, bakery items, books, exhibitions, and performances all in one place. The meaning of Peer a Peer is, “There are things that only appear when you stay and look closely.”

The counter’s long black base and wood-toned top felt clean and polished. The bakery display was right beside a large window, so the breads caught in natural light were visible at a glance and looked even more delicious!!!

Small library

A place to stay while reading. It was spacious, with plenty of room between seats, so it was great for passing time.

Books were placed naturally with breathing room on open wooden shelves instead of being crammed in, creating a stylish library feel. The seating was simply arranged with black-framed tables, chairs, and benches.

The music was as gentle as the space itself. If you want to spend some quiet time, I recommend the small-library area!!!

Exhibition and performance space

A space for encountering artists’ work and performances. The music was a little louder than in the small library, and the exhibition area had a sense of energy.

The highlight here is the large, long concrete table in the center. Wooden and black stools were set out along it so many people could sit together, though it was also easy to enjoy the space alone.

Works hung down from the ceiling, making it feel as though you were taking in one exhibition while walking through the café. The stepped floor, with works placed among gravel and natural stones, made for a lovely nature-connected display~

Gray sofas, black tables, and huge pendant lights added focal points, so families and groups needn’t worry about finding seats. There were also tables in a private area on the way to the restroom.

Windows on several sides brought in lots of natural light, and the view through the front window became part of the room like a framed picture. The trees and garden beyond the huge window looked like a painting, and with the lettering added, the window itself felt like an artwork.

With seating in all different forms, this is a place to settle into whichever spot you like.

Photo studio and photo zone

A space where anyone can capture their own scene. I wondered what the private room inside was, and it turned out to be a studio-like space for taking photos~

Ciabatta and filter coffee menu

There were sandwiches with an Americano from ₩10,000, plus various bakery items and cakes. Order another drink with a set and you get ₩1,000 off!!! And the ciabatta is a best seller. I debated whether to have just the simple ciabatta or go for a more filling sandwich..!

Do check out the cakes too. From Wappu salt bread to cute brownies!!!! The mammoth crumble also looked delicious, with big chunks of chestnut inside.

Peer a Peer uses Momos Coffee beans!!!! And the filter-coffee beans were not the usual kind. It was my first time trying Ddongguri beans, and since they were said to have a strong summer-fruit acidity, I chose Ethiopia Gogugu!

I enjoy coffee regularly, so at a café with good coffee I always have a latte and an Americano. At Peer a Peer, though, I had a latte and iced drip coffee.

The barista.. is the best. They were so kind, and they really do make coffee wonderfully. I personally like a full-bodied latte, and this one wasn’t light but wasn’t overly heavy either—such a delicious latte~

The triple-cheese ciabatta was generously packed with carrot râpée (shredded carrot salad), making the cross-section an instant attention-grabber!!! The crisp, sweet-tangy carrot râpée, savory ham, and soft cheese came together in a simple, satisfying bite~!!

There was so much râpée that every bite had a lovely crunch. It was a pretty sandwich, too, with the bread contrasting vividly against its color~

Ethiopia Gogugu: peach, plum, vanilla, and black tea. Its acidity came through with a refreshing finish. Rather than a heavy coffee, it was clean, with a fragrant lingering note~

I noticed on the way to the restroom: just like the black interior, even the fire extinguisher is black!!!!

As I cleared my table and headed out, the sunlit shadows were so stylish. Really... there isn’t a single unattractive space here. Even the path leading to the outdoor terrace was pretty. Every nook and cranny is a photo zone!

I was 100% satisfied, just as I’d hoped!! It isn’t only the atmosphere that’s good—the coffee is excellent from the very first sip. It was so nice to spend relaxed time alone for the first time in a while, and I can’t forget that rich latte and refreshing drip. If the exhibition changes, I’d love to experience another side of Peer a Peer, too!
