Today I'm sharing my review of Tipsy Couch, a solo drinking bar in Hongdae where you can enjoy a slightly special kind of solo drinking! Honestly, I'd been curious about solo bars for a while, but I kept putting off visiting because I worried it might feel awkward or uncomfortable.
Then I saw a YouTuber I follow recommend Tipsy Couch, and I thought this place seemed safe enough to try. Spoiler: I ended up focusing way more on conversation than drinking and had a genuinely fun time, with none of the awkward atmosphere I was dreading. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone trying a solo bar for the first time.
Where is Tipsy Couch, and what are its hours?

Tipsy Couch is close to Hongik University Station Exit 3, so it's easy to drop by after hanging out in Yeonnam-dong. Just keep in mind that the shop is on the 4th floor of the building with no elevator, so you'll need to take the stairs! I'd also recommend double-checking the hours on their official account before you go.

Not just a bar counter: why Tipsy Couch feels like a house party
When you think 'solo bar,' you probably picture sitting quietly at a long bar counter drinking alone. But Tipsy Couch is decked out with a relaxed, free-flowing atmosphere, more like a house party at a friend's place.

There's a bar area, tables, sofas, and even bed-style seating, each with its own concept, and the high ceilings kept the space from feeling cramped.

Is talking to strangers at Tipsy Couch awkward?
What worried me most before visiting Tipsy Couch was, of course, talking to strangers ㅠㅠ If conversation felt forced or people acted overly friendly for no reason, that would honestly be more exhausting than just drinking alone haha.

But once I actually visited, I realized it's more like a place designed to let conversation flow naturally!!
It might feel a little awkward at first, but once someone tosses out a casual question, others chime in comfortably, and before you know it, everyone's talking together haha.

We ended up spending way more time talking about what everyone does for work, and what's been on our minds lately, than actually drinking.

Since we'd just met, it was actually easier to talk about things I couldn't easily bring up with old friends, and hearing how different everyone's backgrounds and perspectives were made it even more interesting.
Best of all, no one made things uncomfortable by talking too much or pushing too hard — the vibe never felt like a burden.
Cocktails at Tipsy Couch: light drinks for long conversations
That day, I was so busy talking with people that I didn't really slow down to savor the cocktails themselves haha. Still, they were easy to sip while chatting, and they matched the atmosphere of the space well.

If you want to drink alone but you're in the mood to chat comfortably with new people rather than sit in total silence, Tipsy Couch in Hongdae might be worth a visit. I went in worried since it was my first solo bar, but I ended up having a genuinely fun time without any discomfort at all!
Who should visit Tipsy Couch in Yeonnam-dong?
- Anyone wanting to try a solo bar for the first time
- Anyone who enjoys chatting naturally with strangers
- Anyone who dislikes the pressure of blind dates or pickup vibes
- Anyone looking for a Hongdae bar where solo visits don't feel lonely
