Solo drinking with mochi tofu pocket oden in Gangnam: Shunno Oden
In short
Shunno Oden Nonhyeon is a Japanese-style oden izakaya right in front of Nonhyeon Station in Gangnam, Seoul. The writer ordered the oden moriawase assorted platter (26,000 won) with a draft Asahi Super Dry (10,000 won), and the mochi tofu pocket was the standout — good enough to think about adding a 6,000-won plate of it on its own. The sausage wasn't to the writer's taste, but every other oden was soft and satisfying, and the bar seats make Shunno Oden Nonhyeon an easy pick for drinking alone.

Shunno Oden Nonhyeon: hours and how to get there

A great spot near Nonhyeon Station with a carefully made oden moriawase and a mood that feels like Japan.

Hi, this is MEMO. Today I came to Shunno Oden — I heard they'd opened a Nonhyeon branch, so I had to check it out. The oden is handmade with real craftsmanship. Shunno Oden feels like a place for elegant, varied dishes to go with drinks.
Inside Shunno Oden Nonhyeon: Japanese mood and bar seats for one
Shunno Oden Nonhyeon has bar seats, making it perfect for enjoying a solo drink. You can tell every piece of furniture and every little prop was chosen with care.

The interior really feels like you've stepped into Japan, and the mood is fantastic. The bar seats are ideal if you want to drink alone. On a summer night when you just want to be by yourself, a beer and some delicious oden will wash away the day's fatigue —

A beautiful space where you can tell every piece of furniture and every prop was thought through.

Posters on the walls give the whole place a Japanese mood.
What to order: oden moriawase, 26,000 won
The oden moriawase (assorted oden stew) is ₩26,000, a pot filled with various oden, tofu pouches, and sausage.

I'd only heard rumors that Shunno Oden was delicious — this was my first visit. If it's your first time too, I'd recommend the oden moriawase.
What does moriawase mean?
'Mori (盛り)' means to fill, pile up, or heap; 'awase (合わせ)' means to combine or bring together — so it's a dish that brings many things together in one serving.
It lets you taste a wide variety of Shunno Oden's fish cakes.

The bowl comes with yellow mustard on the side — you're supposed to dip your oden in the soy sauce dish on the table along with the mustard. At first I didn't notice the soy sauce and was just dipping in the mustard alone, and I got a bit of a shock once I realized my mistake.

They say you eat with your eyes too — the gorgeous presentation alone puts you in a good mood at this bar near Nonhyeon Station. Being right in front of Nonhyeon Station, served by Line 7 and the Sinbundang Line, made getting there really convenient too.

What comes in the oden moriawase platter
- White-whisker fish cake
- Tomato
- Grilled egg
- Something like a gyoza?
- Mochi tofu pocket
- Spicy oden
- Seafood oden
- Sausage
You get to try a whole range of different flavors this way. The sausage wasn't to my taste, but everything else was delicious.

The soft, pillowy white-whisker fish cake was also my first time trying it.
Asahi Super Dry on draft, 10,000 won
The draft Asahi Super Dry at Shunno Oden Nonhyeon is ₩10,000. Well-kept draft beer, nice and cold Asahi Super Dry.

Reviews kept saying you have to try the Asahi Super Dry here, and they were right. It's genuinely well-kept, delicious draft beer.

A soft, creamy head lingers in your mouth — it's honestly wonderful. If you love beer, you'll be pleased. This place really delivers a Japan-like mood, plus delicious Japanese beer, plus carefully made oden, all at once.

The best bite: mochi tofu pocket, 6,000 won à la carte
My top recommendation is the mochi tofu pocket. You can also order it à la carte for an extra ₩6,000. The two mochi tofu pockets in the oden stew were the best part of the whole meal — the mozzarella cheese inside is wonderfully savory without being salty, and I felt like I could've eaten five of them! Of course, all the other oden were soft and delicious too :)
Side dish and the cat chopstick rests
The basic side dish (banchan) at Shunno Oden Nonhyeon is cabbage.

The cabbage side dish is easy to eat alongside everything else.

These are the chopstick rests placed at every table — the little cats are so cute. Aren't they adorable?

I've never seen such cute cat chopstick rests before.

It was really nice being able to try so many different kinds of oden in one visit.
