Yeoksam-dong BBQ: jingalbi vs marinated galbi for three, Raviok

In short

Raviok Yeoksam Main Branch is a Korean beef restaurant on the 2nd floor of an alley off Teheran-ro 25-gil in Yeoksam-dong, Gangnam, Seoul. On a weekend evening, three friends ordered 2 servings of snow-flake jingalbi grilled rib (150g, 29,000 won) and 2 servings of Ravi marinated grilled rib (200g, 22,000 won), then compared the two ribs after staff finished each with a torch for smoky flavor. The lean jingalbi was good, but all three preferred the sweeter, LA galbi-style Ravi marinated rib.

Finding Raviok Yeoksam: a brick building tucked in a Teheran-ro 25-gil alley

On a weekend evening I visited Raviok with two friends for some meat.

Tucked deep in an alley, the brick exterior already gave off an old-school, well-loved restaurant vibe. There's even a Gangnam-gu Model Restaurant sign on the front, which made me curious before I even walked in.

Interior of Raviok with generous spacing between tables

The inside was bigger than I expected. Tables weren't cramped together, and since it was a weekend evening, there were plenty of customers and a lively atmosphere.

Fabric draped from the ceiling and soft bulbs gave Raviok its own distinct mood. I also spotted seating good for larger groups, so it looked like a solid pick for a Yeoksam group dinner spot too.

The order the staff suggested: 2 servings of jingalbi plus 2 of marinated rib

We initially ordered 4 servings of just the Ravi marinated grilled rib. But a staff member strongly recommended the snow-flake jingalbi grilled rib as well, so we switched things up. After some thought, we settled on 2 servings of snow-flake jingalbi grilled rib and 2 servings of Ravi marinated grilled rib. In the end it was a good call — being able to compare two flavors beat sticking with just one.

The banchan (side dishes) spread was varied too. Salad, kimchi, pickled vegetables, and dongchimi (radish water kimchi) came out — good for pairing between bites of meat — along with salt, fresh wasabi, and several sauces.

After the refreshing salad woke up our appetite, we got started on the Yeoksam-dong beef in earnest.

What does snow-flake jingalbi grilled rib taste like? 150g, 29,000 won

The snow-flake jingalbi grilled rib is ₩29,000 for 150g per serving. It came out as thick cuts of meat alongside shiitake mushrooms and garlic scapes — just looking at it was mouthwatering.

What stood out most was that they torch the surface of the meat right at the table. Strong flames swept over the meat and a nutty aroma burst up, making it fun to watch too.

The surface cooked to a delicious color while the inside stayed juicy.

Eaten plain, it was clean and nutty (kind of like steak), and dipping it lightly in salt or topping it with fresh wasabi brought out the natural flavor of the Yeoksam-dong beef even more clearly. It was thick but not chewy, easy for the three of us to share comfortably. Ordering it on the staff member's recommendation — I got why she suggested it.

Next we moved on to the 2 servings of Ravi marinated grilled rib. The Ravi marinated grilled rib is ₩22,000 for 200g per serving. It's said to use selected flower rib cuts, aged for 3 days in a house-made marinade, in an LA galbi style.

The marinated rib was also torch-finished tableside before cooking on the pan. As the sweet marinade met the fire, the aroma got even richer, making our mouths water while we waited.

Watching the meat sizzle on the pan was great too. The marinade had soaked in well between the cuts, and even the meat clinging to the bone came off tender. The sweet-and-salty marinade blended naturally with the smoky flavor — a taste that kept us reaching for more. If you like the familiar LA galbi style, this is a menu item you can enjoy without hesitation.

Jingalbi or marinated galbi: which should you order first at Raviok?

The snow-flake jingalbi grilled rib had a clean, nutty charm, while the Ravi marinated grilled rib worked well with its juicy marinade and smoky aroma. Both menu items had their own strengths, and we enjoyed them both.

That said, the three of us leaned slightly more toward the sweet LA galbi-style Ravi marinated grilled rib. If you like rich marinated galbi, I'd personally recommend trying the Ravi marinated grilled rib first.

Throughout the meal, staff took care of whatever we needed, and the spacious restaurant looked comfortable for larger groups too. It seemed like a great fit for a Yeoksam group dinner spot, or for a weekend family meal.

After finishing our meal, we grabbed a candy from the counter on the way out, feeling satisfied. There was also a good variety of liquor on display, so it looked like a nice spot to enjoy a drink alongside the meat.

If you're looking for a Yeoksam-dong Korean BBQ restaurant, it's worth ordering both the snow-flake jingalbi and the Ravi marinated grilled rib to compare. If you like clean, plain meat, go for the jingalbi grilled rib; if you like sweet marinade and smoky flavor, the Ravi marinated grilled rib will suit you better. It was a weekend evening where the three of us happily polished off 4 servings of meat. Next time we return to Raviok, a Yeoksam-dong Korean BBQ restaurant, I think we'll order plenty of the marinated rib that suited our tastes so well.
