Gangnam café apple cinnamon scone and nectarine cheesecake: Something

In short

Something About Coffee is a large house-renovated bakery café in Gangnam, Seoul, tucked in the alley behind the CGV between Sinnonhyeon and Gangnam Station. The nectarine cheesecake, apple cinnamon butter scone, matcha cream cold brew and hot americano all tasted hotel-grade thanks to French gourmet butter and Finnish cream cheese. It's busy, but the high ceilings keep it from feeling cramped, making it easy to enjoy the desserts' quality.

You'd think there wouldn't be many large cafés downtown, but that's actually not quite true.

Head toward the alley behind the CGV between Sinnonhyeon Station and Gangnam Station, and you'll find surprisingly many big dessert cafés — some of them genuinely popular.

The place I'm introducing today is a hotspot that anyone serious about desserts has probably heard of or visited already. It was so packed I could barely take proper photos, but the high ceilings kept it from feeling stuffy, and after tasting the food, I understood why everyone comes here.

Let me introduce Something About Coffee, a café near Gangnam Station.

A spacious, atmospheric layout with a cozy feel

Something About Coffee is built from a renovated house, with the entire building operating as the café, and it's fully equipped with a wide terrace and rooftop space.

The chandeliers are lovely, and although it's spacious, the interior still has a charming, warm touch — great for meeting friends or a date.

That said, being such a popular Gangnam hotspot, you'll be spending your time in a lively, busy atmosphere.

Why the desserts taste different: the ingredients

Special desserts made from carefully selected top-tier ingredients

The highlight here is the eye-catching bakery lineup. Just looking at the pastries and cakes filling the showcase makes you happy.

Plenty of places stock their cases like this, but there's a reason Something About Coffee's desserts taste better than most.

They use French gourmet butter and French chocolate for a deep, rich flavor, plus Guérande salt, a premium French salt.

On top of that, Finnish cream cheese and 100% dairy whipped cream give it maximum smoothness, and they say they only use French black tea and 100% pure almonds.

With ingredients that solid, how could it not taste good? I picked a few things to try, and the quality really did feel like hotel-level dessert craftsmanship.

Nectarine cheesecake and apple cinnamon butter scone

The thick, rich flavor of Finnish cream cheese was loaded with fragrant, sweet-tart peach. If they'd used yellow or white peach the color balance would've been hard to keep, but the nectarine's white-and-red look matched perfectly, and there was peach purée inside.

The moment I took a bite, it was just so good — I normally try to eat with some restraint, but I kept going, bite after bite, and finished the whole thing without stopping.

The scone had the rich, nutty flavor of French gourmet butter, topped with an extra pat of butter. With stewed apple compote on top, I ate it thinking, 'Was a scone always this good?' Crisp outside, moist inside — a perfect match for coffee.

Matcha cream cold brew and hot americano

I'm not that big on matcha, but one of my blog neighbors always drinks it happily, so I followed suit today.

The cold brew layered over the matcha cream made a lovely gradient, and the drink had both sweet and bitter charm at once — the machine was great, but the barista's skill was clearly no joke either.

I asked for the americano with a nutty roast, served hot. It paired perfectly with the desserts, cleansing the palate and bringing out the dessert flavors while still feeling rich and satisfying.

Final thoughts

The drinks were good and the facilities were comfortable enough that I never felt inconvenienced during my visit. Above all, the dessert lineup was so well-crafted that I found myself amazed with every bite. If you're looking for a good-vibe café with genuinely delicious desserts near Sinnonhyeon or Gangnam Station, I'd definitely recommend Something About Coffee, made with top-tier ingredients and real care.
