In short

Something About Coffee is a large three-floor dessert café between Gangnam Station and Sinnonhyeon Station in Seoul. On a Saturday evening visit, the writer sat on the rooftop outdoor terrace with a black sesame cream latte, iced Americano, strawberry butter scone, and Mont Blanc cheesecake, enjoying wide seat spacing that made quiet conversation easy. It's a great-vibe Gangnam spot for a blind date or group meetup.

Table set with desserts and drinks at Something About Coffee

I was trying to figure out where to go for coffee near Gangnam Station and ended up at "Something About Coffee," a large dessert café with a really good atmosphere for a blind date. The dessert selection was varied, and being such a big café, it was quiet enough to feel like a proper date spot.

The café is spread across three floors, and the seats are spaced generously, so you can chat without feeling cramped — I saw quite a few couples having quiet conversations, on dates or blind dates.

The vibe of the 3-floor café and rooftop terrace

Wide view of the spacious indoor seating at Something About Coffee

It's honestly hard to find a large café in Gangnam, but this one had three floors plus a rooftop outdoor terrace.

Interior seating on a floor with its own distinct mood in the large café

Each floor has a different mood, so you can pick your seat comfortably. I visited on a Saturday and it was packed almost to capacity.

The outdoor terrace! I went out after the sun had gone down and it was so nice. The weather was good, so sipping coffee out there felt even more atmospheric than sitting inside.

There were plenty of tables, so it looked fine for group hangouts too — and above all, the vibe was so good it felt like the perfect Gangnam spot for a blind date.

What's on the menu?

You can add extra shots to the coffee, decaf is available, and true to its reputation as a dessert spot, the bread and cake lineup was really varied.

There were plenty of cake options — chocolate fudge cheesecake, Mont Blanc cheesecake, hwangchi (yellow cheese) cheesecake, lemon yogurt gateau, and more.

What we ordered

  • Strawberry butter scone
  • Iced Americano
  • Black sesame cream latte
  • Mont Blanc cheesecake

How does the black sesame cream latte taste?

There aren't many places in Seoul where you can get a black sesame cream latte, so the moment I saw it I picked it without hesitation.

A cup of black sesame cream latte topped with cream

You should drink black sesame lattes without stirring first, so you can taste the nutty black sesame cream on its own.

Close-up of the black sesame cream latte before stirring

The black sesame was ground finely and richly, so the nuttiness was definitely strong. When it hits your mouth together with the coffee shot underneath, the bitterness of the coffee and the nuttiness of the black sesame amplify each other.

Iced Americano filled with ice

I was surprised the iced Americano tasted better than expected — they must use decent beans. The burnt note wasn't too strong either, so it was easy to drink alongside the cake desserts.

Strawberry butter scone and Mont Blanc cheesecake

The strawberry butter scone comes topped with a slice of butter and sweet strawberry jam.

I cut it neatly with a knife, spread on a bit of butter, then the strawberry jam on top — nothing beats this as a dessert after a meal. A certified Gangnam dessert spot!!

Mont Blanc cheesecake topped with a chestnut

Chestnuts are in season in fall, right? The cake had a big chunk of chestnut on top, and it tasted sweet, like proper roasted chestnut.

A forkful showing the texture of the Mont Blanc cheesecake

The texture was dense yet moist,

and the dense cheese cream underneath had a sweet chestnut flavor that paired well with the iced Americano.

Wrap-up

With a wide variety of desserts and a spacious layout good for dates, if you're looking for a Gangnam blind-date café or a Gangnam dessert café, give "Something About Coffee" a visit.
