Gangnam café for mango sherbet latte and spacious seating: Upper and Under
In short
Upper and Under is a spacious dessert café in Gangnam, Seoul, about 300 m from Sinnonhyeon Station. I revisited for pistachio canelé, raspberry pound cake, and a mango bar sherbet latte, plus the warm wood-toned space and friendly counter service. Verdict: a reliably lovely choice for dates and group meetups.

Whenever I have plans in Gangnam, the recurring question is always, “Where should we go?” Places that are too cramped or noisy can wear you out so quickly, but I have a favorite café near Sinnonhyeon Station that I can always count on. It’s Upper and Under, where everything from the atmosphere to the dessert quality is just perfect! I loved it so much that I went back again this time. I tried different items from my last visit, and it still gave me that same satisfying feeling without letting me down.
Getting to Upper and Under from Sinnonhyeon Station, plus a parking tip
Upper and Under is about 300 m on foot from Exit 6 of Sinnonhyeon Station, so it is really convenient to reach by public transportation. It is on the Shinbundang Line, making it easy to get to from Gangnam Station too—perfect for a meetup.

The exterior already has that distinct cozy feel, so you step inside in a good mood from the very entrance. 📸
For parking, I highly recommend Yeoksam Cultural Park 2 Public Parking Lot in front of Kukkiwon! It can fill up quickly on weekends or at busy times, so it is much better for your peace of mind to arrive a little early, park safely, and walk over!
A relaxed wood-toned space from B1 through the third floor
Upper and Under is a large Gangnam café that occupies the entire building from B1 through the third floor, and the sense of roominess is something special.

Each floor has a slightly different appeal, so it is fun choosing where to sit. The warm, snug wood-toned interior offers a whole different level of comfort from the cool, minimalist cafés that are everywhere these days.
In particular, the spot around the stair lighting connecting the second and third floors is a photo zone flooded with natural light, so be sure to take a proof shot!! Haha

The tables are generously spaced too, making this a lovely Gangnam café for relaxed conversation without worrying about the people next to you.
Counter ordering and kind service

I feel this every time I visit, but the staff are genuinely so kind that I am in a good mood from the moment I walk in. Because they use a counter-ordering system, another big plus is being able to hear about the desserts directly before choosing. Just being able to enjoy such a pleasant, spacious space in the heart of Gangnam is enough reason to return 🥹
The baked-goods and dessert lineup
Honestly, the menu will make your eyes go wide, haha.

As a Gangnam dessert spot with such an impressive lineup of baked goods and desserts,

there is as much variety as at a bakery café. The prices also seem fairly reasonable for Gangnam.
The highlight of this visit: trying the new menu items

The moment they arrived, I could not help exclaiming at how good they looked. Haha.
Pistachio canelé
It is the textbook version of crisp outside, chewy and moist inside.

The rich, nutty pistachio flavor fills your mouth—it is a refined taste that any dessert lover will absolutely enjoy.
Raspberry pound cake

A tangy-sweet raspberry glaze tops the rich, soft pound cake,

so you get both sweet and tart charm at once.
Mango bar sherbet latte

It has sweet mango syrup at the bottom, topped with milk and Mango Bar mango ice cream. I recommend it because the plain richness of the milk goes so beautifully with the mango’s soft, sweet fragrance!
Iced Americano

The beans are clean, with little bitterness and a lovely nutty note that comes through, so they pair wonderfully with the sweet desserts.
Why I want to return for dates and meetups
Taste, atmosphere, and accessibility: all three come together perfectly here, with nothing to regret.

If you are looking for a proper date spot near Gangnam Station or Sinnonhyeon Station, or a café for a gathering, do not overthink it—visit Upper and Under. It is a 5 out of 5 for taste, and the dessert quality will impress you. The cozy wood-toned interior makes it ideal for a date course, and I am still so satisfied that this is a hot spot I am 200% willing to revisit regularly!
