I went to Muhwawon Perfume Workshop for a chance to find my own taste among countless scents. As soon as I opened the door, a pleasant lingering scent and a calm, sensory interior settled my mind right away.
Sniffing top, middle, and base notes one by one, completing my own mood with the subtle difference of a single drop — the process was far more fascinating and healing than I expected. Let me walk you through the special perfuming record I made, entirely my own, at Muhwawon.

Muhwawon Bukchon Perfume Workshop, which I'd recommend as a Bukchon date course, is a 6-minute walk from Anguk Station Exit 4 and a 7-minute walk from Jongno 3-ga Station Exit 6 — the accessibility was really good.
If you make a reservation, they send you a text with the building's entry door code! You punch in that code and head up to the 3rd floor, where the workshop is located.
The vibe is so good just from looking at it, right? Most of the guests were actually couples, but there was also someone who came with her mom. Next time I'm bringing my mom too haha..
How does the perfume class at Muhwawon work?
Once you step into Muhwawon, the perfumer shows you to your seat! You sit down, do a bit of preliminary research, and then they play a guide video — introduction video? — on a tablet, which shows the perfume-making process and a bit of perfume knowledge, so it's worth watching closely~
Choosing your scents from the sniffing sampler
After watching the video, you pick the scent you want from the sniffing samplers set up at each table. Most people blend perfume to match a certain image they have in mind, right? So each sampler had the scent's name and mood written on it. So thoughtful of Muhwawon..~
Once you pick a scent, the perfumer checks whether it matches the mood you chose! They gave all kinds of questions and advice here — like adding something to emphasize a certain mood more, or asking what feeling I'd like to bring out more since a certain mood was already showing up — which made it super easy even for a non-expert like me to make my own perfume.
When your nose gets dulled from all the sniffing, take a break with coffee beans..
Blending at Muhwawon: measuring down to 0.1g with a dropper
Once your choices are finalized, they bring out the fragrance solutions kept in the back and start making your blend.
This part was surprisingly fun. Using the dropper, focusing hard so as not to be off even by 0.1g — I kind of felt like a scientist? (If I'd studied with this level of focus, I wouldn't have failed my exams three times.)
Why can even a total first-timer make perfume this easily and enjoyably? Because Muhwawon is just that kind and thorough.. (I really mean this — I've already recommended it to people around me.)

Once all the fragrances are mixed, they pour it into the perfume bottle and you give it a good shake shake~~
The last step: naming your perfume and adding the label
This is the last step! Naming the perfume! They make a label sheet, and once you give them the name you came up with, they stick it on so beautifully like this.

The sense of accomplishment and excitement when the fragrances I picked myself came together into a perfume that exists nowhere else in the world stayed with me for quite a while at Muhwawon.
