In short

Ichigyu Seoul Station Branch is a gyukatsu (breaded beef cutlet) and steak restaurant on basement level 1 of the building at Exit 11 of Seoul Station, Jung-gu, Seoul. Stopping in alone after work, the writer ordered gyukatsu for 19,500 won, yakisoba Napolitan for 12,000 won and a 420ml Kirin draft beer for 8,000 won, and cleared both plates among several other solo diners at the restaurant's many tables. The lesson from Ichigyu Seoul Station Branch: melt the butter generously, or the gyukatsu burns.

A Seoul Station spot that's great for eating solo: Ichigyu Seoul Station Branch

Full spread of gyukatsu at Ichigyu Seoul Station Branch

Today I'm bringing you a review of Ichigyu Seoul Station Branch, a great spot near Seoul Station for solo dining. I've been eating pretty poorly since switching jobs recently, and this particular day was so rough I decided I needed a proper dinner. While looking around, I thought of Ichigyu — solo-friendly and delicious — and headed straight there.

Is Ichigyu Seoul Station Branch comfortable for eating alone?

Ichigyu Seoul Station Branch has tons of tables, so I didn't feel self-conscious sitting alone. A good solo-dining restaurant needs plenty of seats so you don't feel out of place, and this place had that in spades.

Seating well-suited for solo diners at Ichigyu Seoul Station Branch

At some restaurants, staff get a little flustered or show a hint of displeasure when you say it's just you — but there was none of that here, so I could eat comfortably. There were also a lot of other solo diners when I visited. Which means it's already well known as a great Seoul Station spot for solo dining. Mmhmm.

The menu centers on two mains — gyukatsu and steak — plus other items, so it's good for ordering a few things to share.

  • Gyukatsu ₩19,500
  • Yakisoba Napolitan ₩12,000
  • Kirin draft beer 420ml ₩8,000

I wanted to eat something good that day, so I just went ahead and ordered two dishes. Hahahaha.

Beer after work is happiness itself. In this moment, I don't envy billionaires. Beer after clocking out? Aaah~~~~ Once you know this taste, you feel like you're truly becoming an adult... haha.

Gyukatsu portion size and how to melt the butter without burning it

The gyukatsu at Ichigyu Seoul Station Branch is ₩19,500, and I was surprised by how generous the portion was. It's a good amount if you want to eat without overdoing it. Of course, that's just my standard — most other people will be plenty full!!! (Keep in mind I'm the type who orders two dishes and finishes both.)

Butter served alongside the gyukatsu

For the gyukatsu, you melt the butter they give you first, then cook the cutlet on it. I'd ordered two dishes, so worried about gaining weight from the butter, I only melted a little — that was a mistake.

Gyukatsu slightly burnt from too little butter

Because if you don't melt enough butter, the gyukatsu burns easily. Ugh. The butter smells so good that it's totally fine to melt it all. I even thought about ordering extra butter while eating.

A piece of gyukatsu topped with wasabi

If the butter makes it feel a little rich, put some wasabi on top and dip it in the sauce — the gyukatsu turns wonderfully soft and moist! And the butter aroma rises up on top of that, so you just end up eating without thinking.

Ketchup-based yakisoba Napolitan

What does the yakisoba Napolitan at Ichigyu taste like?

The yakisoba Napolitan at Ichigyu Seoul Station Branch is ₩12,000, a ketchup-based dish with a nostalgic, generous style — it reminded me of ketchup tteokbokki, and I loved it. Yakisoba noodles already have great savoriness, and combined with a ketchup base? There's no way this isn't delicious.

I'd actually been craving ketchup tteokbokki for a few days, and this yakisoba Napolitan filled that craving perfectly!! There's a soft-boiled egg on top too, plus bacon, sausage, and all kinds of vegetables piled in, so it makes for a hearty single meal.

Honestly, I thought I wouldn't be able to finish both dishes, but I must have been really exhausted and hungry that day, because I cleaned both plates completely. I got to eat a proper dinner at Ichigyu Seoul Station Branch, a great Seoul Station spot for solo dining, and headed home in a good mood haha. I'd visited Ichigyu Seoul Station Branch before too, and it was delicious then as well — this visit gave me another happy memory, so it's become my go-to spot for when I'm feeling down. Hehe.
