Suyuk hot pot restaurant in Gasan, Seoul for group dinners: Yukhwang

In short

Yukhwang is a Korean restaurant specializing in suyuk (boiled pork) hot pot and yukhoe (beef tartare), about 5 minutes on foot from Exit 8 of Gasan Digital Complex Station in Geumcheon, Seoul. On a weekday evening Yukhwang was down to its last free table, and the order came to yukhoe bibimbap at 13,000 won, a small suyuk hot pot at 48,000 won, and a beer, with the hot pot arriving with kalguksu noodles and vegetables to fish out like all-you-can-eat shabu shabu. The vegetable-packed hot pot and the soy-based yukhoe bibimbap make Yukhwang an easy choice for a work or group dinner.

Entrance of Yukhwang near Gasan Digital Complex Station

Where is Yukhwang, and what are its hours?

Yukhwang is a Korean restaurant about a 5-minute walk from Exit 8 of Gasan Digital Complex Station. There's a restaurant in Gasan Digital Complex that makes my mouth water just thinking about it, and with such nice weather I skipped over there feeling great ^.^ The weather's been so good lately that walking around is exciting!!!!

  • Mon-Fri 11:00~21:00 (last order 20:20)
  • Saturday 11:00~16:00 (last order 15:20)
  • Closed on Sundays
Yukhwang interior packed with weekday evening diners

This seems to be a hot spot in Gasan Digital Complex, no doubt about it. I went on a weekday evening and the place was completely packed—I managed to snag the very last open seat!!! If I'd been a bit later I probably would've had to wait.

Yukhwang's menu and what we ordered

Yukhwang's menu is packed with dishes good for a meal or as a drinking snack. There's a limit to what two people can order but there's so much I wanted to try ㅠㅠ We went with yukhoe bibimbap (beef tartare rice bowl) for 13,000 won, suyuk hot pot (small) for 48,000 won, and beer for 5,000 won!

Savory octopus jeotgal side dish

This octopus jeotgal (salted seafood) side dish has crazy savory depth. Put it on something mild and it's genuinely delicious!!!!!!

Soy sauce for dipping boiled pork

This is the dipping sauce for the boiled pork—looks like a plain soy sauce but it's addictive, no joke.

Yukhwang's yukhoe bibimbap: a soy-based bowl

A bowl of soy-based yukhoe bibimbap

The yukhoe bibimbap arrives. It's not the gochujang style—soy sauce based!! I fell completely in love with this style at Neungdong Minari, so I was so happy to see Yukhwang do it this way too!

Yukhoe bibimbap piled with vegetables and beef tartare

So much vegetables and so much beef tartare piled on that you can barely see the rice ㅋㅋㅋ You can basically eat it like a salad.

Beef radish soup served alongside the yukhoe bibimbap

The soup that came with it is mild, so adding the salt and pepper on the table makes it even tastier ^.^ The beef radish soup is small but pretty substantial ㅋㅋㅋ Beef radish soup at a yukhoe place never fails.

Mixing up the yukhoe bibimbap, that nutty sesame oil smell is insane. ㅋㅋㅋㅋ

Mixed soy-based yukhoe bibimbap

Genuinely tastes like Neungdong Minari style. It doesn't look red so you might wonder what flavor it is, but the nutty taste is seriously addictive. Lots of vegetables too, so it's a healthy taste!!! Anyone who loves Neungdong Minari will definitely love this!

Small suyuk hot pot with kalguksu noodles and vegetables

And then the suyuk hot pot (small) arrives. Looks hearty just from the visual!!

Kalguksu noodles and vegetables included with the hot pot

I thought kalguksu noodles were a separate add-on you had to order, but it just came out included!!! Kalguksu noodles plus vegetables came as part of the set.

Full suyuk hot pot table setup

A hearty-looking set just from the sight of it ^.^

Suyuk hot pot in its early stage with little visible broth

At first it looks like there's no broth, but it's hiding underneath with the bean sprouts, and they said they'll add more if you ask ^.^

Close-up of tendon-attached suyuk piece

That tendon-looking part??? Looks so darn good ^.^ Meat like that is always the tastiest part!!!! (says my old-man palate)

As time passes, the suyuk hot pot starts bubbling away. Seems like even more liquid comes out of the bean sprouts underneath. There's really a ton of bean sprouts down there ㅋㅋㅋ

Suyuk hot pot bubbling as it simmers
Bean sprout-lined suyuk hot pot ingredients

The meat is truly tender and soft, and the vegetables are piled on so generously that I kept fishing them out like at an all-you-can-eat shabu shabu place ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ We kept eating and eating and it kept coming!!!!

Kalguksu noodles added into the suyuk hot pot

And then in go the kalguksu noodles ㅋㅋㅋㅋ Loaded with vegetables here too. If this isn't all-you-can-eat, what is. I feel like I ate about as many vegetables as at a genuine all-you-can-eat shabu shabu place. I feel healthier just from eating this..ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ

Hot pot simmering with added broth

Since there was so much stuff in it, they added more broth too, and the longer it simmered the richer and deeper the flavor got. It's surprising that even after a refill midway through, it never tasted watered down.

Suyuk hot pot with noodles and vegetables half and half
Boiled kalguksu noodles in the suyuk hot pot

Boiled it up hot and ate—the noodle-to-vegetable ratio was almost 1:1 which I loved ^*^ I love vegetables in hot pot, so I ate to my heart's content 😉😉

Is Yukhwang a good spot for a group dinner in Gasan?

The kalguksu noodles were soft and tasty too!!! It worked great both as a meal and as a drinking snack! It's surprisingly rare to find a place serving this kind of hot pot, and it paired so well with the yukhoe bibimbap—felt like I made a great menu choice ^.^ I'd love to try the sliced suyuk platter or yukhoe next time 🤤🤤 If I worked in Gasan I'd definitely be a regular here—recommend Yukhwang!!👍👍
