24-hour gukbap restaurant in Yeongdeungpo: Deundeun Haejanggukbap

Seonyudo Station will soon be my neighborhood 😊 I stopped by to check on the wallpapering at home, then dropped into Deundeun Haejanggukbap Seonyudo Station Branch (든든해장국밥 선유도역점) for a bowl of gukbap on a chilly day.

A 24-hour gukbap restaurant by Seonyudo Station

Deundeun Haejanggukbap Seonyudo Station Branch is open 24 hours. The tiled-roof decoration and red 24-hour sign stood out even from afar.

I only wanted sundae gukbap, but somehow I ended up at a gukbap place selling all kinds of things, including sundae hot pot, gopchang hot pot, and jjageuli stew 😂

I stopped in around 6:30 p.m. on a weekday, and there were quite a few customers. It seems lots of people crave gukbap as the weather gets colder~~ The place is spacious, so it feels like I could find myself a seat whenever I came for dinner. But at lunch, I bet it is packed wall-to-wall with office workers! Seeing the Catchtable waiting pad at the entrance, this must definitely be a place people queue for 😂

A retro-feel interior

There were so many customers when I visited that I could not photograph the whole space, but this is roughly the feeling of the restaurant interior ⬇️ So much retro charm!

Even the spoon-and-chopstick set had flowers and butterflies on it, like something you would find at your grandmother's house... 🌺🦋 And I was impressed that they even had paper rests for placing your utensils, something I had never seen anywhere else.

Even the music playing inside was Korean pop rearranged for instruments such as the gayageum zither 😂

Can you really eat unlimited sundae?

Kimchi, kkakdugi radish kimchi, chili peppers, and ssamjang dipping paste came as the basic sides, and we could help ourselves to more side dishes.

Deundeun Haejanggukbap has one unusual feature: unlimited sundae 😲 They steam a huge quantity of sundae in an enormous steamer next to the self-serve side-dish bar! I had never seen a service like this before...

There are sauces right beside it, too, so you can take whichever you like. I picked up the recommended deulcho sauce and hwangma sauce. Deulcho sauce is chojang spicy vinegar sauce + perilla seed powder + sesame oil.

Before the main gukbap had even arrived, I had a bite of sundae first 🤤

The deulcho sauce was totally my taste. Chojang, perilla seed powder, and sesame oil. I thought I should make it at home too 🤭

Sundae gukbap and pork gukbap sets

Next came the sundae gukbap. Ugh, I filmed the sundae gukbap video upside down. And this is the pork gukbap.

Both had a relatively clear-feeling broth and a clean flavor! They seem perfect for eating warm on a cold day ㅜㅜ I was happy because there was lots of sundae in mine 👍 I loved the deulcho sauce so much that I dipped the sundae from inside the gukbap in it too 🤭

What we ordered: ✔️ Signature Set: pork gukbap + tteokgalbi grilled short-rib patty + warm boiled pork + chive salad ✔️ Buckwheat Jeonbyeong Set: sundae gukbap + buckwheat jeonbyeong pancake roll

You can choose your gukbap as follows.

• Sundae, spicy sundae, sundae only, spicy sundae only

Tteokgalbi + warm boiled pork + chive salad ⬇️

Personally, the boiled pork was not especially memorable, but the tteokgalbi and chive salad were so delicious 🤤 Buckwheat jeonbyeong ⬇️

The buckwheat jeonbyeong was tasty too 🤤 Having gukbap plus a side dish as a set was incredibly filling. And then there was the unlimited sundae too 😂 It feels like a place where you can get full just by visiting, so I thought it would be especially popular with men.

Evening drinking snacks and ₩900 cup makgeolli

As you would expect from a place open 24 hours, there were plenty of dishes suitable as drinking snacks too. Gopchang hot pot, sundae hot pot, and jjageuli stew, of course.

There were other tasty-looking sides as well 🤤 The fried items especially looked delicious, so I took a photo.

And there was the unusual Excellent ice cream and iced mango 🥭🍦 Does the owner love Excellent ice cream or something?.. Just note that Excellent Ice Mango is not sold at lunchtime; it is for evening drinking snacks 🤭

And this was such a great idea! A cup of makgeolli sold for ₩900 😲👍

Whether it is lunch or dinner, when you want a little drink—but ordering a whole bottle feels like too much—when you want just one cup! Being able to drink one cup of makgeolli for ₩900 with no pressure... whose idea was this? It is seriously so good 😲👍

The Wan-ttuk! Challenge and fun details around the restaurant

Maybe it is an opening event, but the Wan-ttuk! Challenge is currently on, so it could be fun to try 🤭 Finish everything, including the broth—wan-ttuk!—and if “Winner” is written on the bottom of your bowl, it is free!

My stomach was nicely filled with warm gukbap and generous sundae, and there were all kinds of things to experience while I was there, making this visit to Deundeun Haejanggukbap a little fun (?) 🤭 In the daytime, it is a hearty meal; at night, it is a comfortable place for a drink.
