A hanok-style gomtang and Pyongyang naengmyeon restaurant near Hongdae Entrance
A new gomtang and Pyongyang naengmyeon restaurant with a lovely hanok-style atmosphere has opened near Hongdae Entrance.

Isn't the atmosphere so nice? It has a feeling you don't usually get in Hongdae.
Inside

The restaurant was comfortable too, and it looked great for a family gathering.
Anok's menu and neat table setting

- Clear gomtang (beef soup)
- Pyongyang naengmyeon (Pyongyang-style cold buckwheat noodles)
- Yukhoe bibimbap (raw beef mixed rice)
- Braised pork tails
- Warm sliced boiled pork platter
- Grilled deodeok (bellflower root)

Kkakdugi, kimchi, and gungchae.

The table was set so neatly and cleanly that it put me in a good mood.

- Clear gomtang
- Pyongyang naengmyeon
- Braised pork tails
Clear, savory gomtang

The clear gomtang is simmered in-house, with a clear, clean broth. The meat comes in big slices, so one bowl is really filling. I kept reaching for the large, tender pieces of warm boiled pork with the meat sauce on top—they were so mild and delicious.

The broth is really clear, right? It has gomtang's deep savory flavor, but it is clear and clean, so I kept drinking it.

I mixed in a whole bowl of rice for a hearty meal, and then the braised pork tails arrived—why was the portion so big?
Spicy-sweet braised pork tails

The combination was so good: clear broth alongside spicy braised pork tails. The fat was wonderfully chewy with a spicy sauce—about as hot as Shin Ramyun? It isn't very spicy!!

The spicy-sweet, savory seasoning went so well with the tender fat.

Pyongyang naengmyeon for the last of summer
And there was Pyongyang naengmyeon too—just right for a summer menu.

The Pyongyang naengmyeon was clean-tasting too, with a clear, salty meat-based broth.

The noodles had a distinct buckwheat aroma, and the noodles themselves were delicious.

I wrapped a big piece of meat around the chewy, springy noodles and slurped them down, finishing with Pyongyang naengmyeon for the last of summer.
