Gangnam Taiwanese Chinese restaurant: tomato egg at Sinbok Myeongwan

Even within Chinese cuisine, the continent is so vast that flavors and styles vary hugely by region, right? Haha. I think the world of Chinese food is wonderfully broad and fun when you get to enjoy those regional characteristics and differences.

Today, I’m introducing a Chinese restaurant near Gangnam Station that my husband enjoyed so, so much—it was incredibly clean-tasting, full of umami, and delicious. I asked, and apparently it’s Taiwanese-style Chinese food.

Juicy Xiaolongbao

They also sell dim sum, so we had to order some. >.< These xiaolongbao were full of juice. I loved that the wrappers were thin, too...

They were served freshly steamed, so nice and hot.

First, I tried the glossy xiaolongbao, bursting with broth.

Carefully lift one so the broth doesn’t burst out, then take a bite... >.< Wow—such nutty, savory, umami-packed broth came pouring out. The xiaolongbao were so rich and delicious. Haha. I was very satisfied.

Tomato Egg Stir-Fry That Goes Beautifully With Rice

Tomato and scrambled egg stir-fry—known affectionately as todal-bokkeum—was once practically my staple food, and I love it so much! The portion was quite generous, too.

One spoonful, and it was packed with umami, rich, and so, so delicious!!! It was much bolder and much, much more flavorful than what I make at home. Hahaha, seriously delicious. There was an option to add a bowl of rice when choosing the menu, and I thought it would go really well with rice.

So I tried it with rice... and it really was such a perfect match, so delicious. Of everything I ate at Sinbok Myeongwan, this tomato egg stir-fry was my favorite! Haha.

Kung Pao Chicken Rice and Egg Soup

I tend to love Chinese à la carte dishes, and kung pao chicken is one of my favorite Chinese chicken dishes. Not many places serve it, but here they offer it accessibly as a rice bowl? My husband was curious and ordered it right away. Haha.

When you order the kung pao chicken rice, it comes with egg soup like this. Oh, and kung pao chicken is a slightly spicy chicken dish made by stir-frying cubed chicken with nuts. It’s a friend of yuxiang chicken. Haha.

Even though it was a rice bowl, my husband preferred mixing it all together. Hahaha. When you spoon plenty of that deep, umami-rich sauce over the rice... it goes so well with it. The rice was a little firm, with a feeling like an akita-style rice variety, which made it feel even more exotic?

Sinbok Myeongwan was a clean-tasting Chinese restaurant that suited Korean palates while still giving off lots of exotic flair, so I was very satisfied. We tried a variety of dishes and enjoyed them all, so I think we’ll be back!
