I'd been craving neat, hearty Korean food, so I headed to Mikodam near Balsan Station 🍚 When you're looking for somewhere to bring parents or have a quiet conversation over a meal, you naturally want a place with well-separated spaces — and this spot has both a tidy full-table spread and a private room. How to find Mikodam Magok-Balsan Branch, and where to park

Mikodam Magok-Balsan Branch is just a 3-minute walk from Exit 4 of Balsan Station! It's super convenient by public transit, and there's also a large parking lot right next to the restaurant, so driving is an option too 🚗

Inside Mikodam: main hall and private room

Walking into Mikodam, you get a full view of a spacious, comfortable hall — clean and open. The tables in the hall are set well apart too, so eating there never feels cramped; it's a relaxed atmosphere, which I loved even more.

There's also a separate private room further inside where you can close the door and eat, which makes it great for family meals or even meeting-the-in-laws occasions — and it's clean enough that bringing your parents here feels completely appropriate ‼️

What comes with the 46,000 won set for two

📍 Today's order was the (Hansang Gadeuk) set for two at ₩46,000, plus Zero Coke ₩2,000 × 2, for a total of ₩50,000.

We went with Mikodam's signature 2-person set 🤍 After a short wait, dish after neat, generous dish kept coming out until the table was completely full.

The side dishes and the stir-fried pork

The seasoned vegetables, japchae (glass noodle stir-fry), and stir-fried pork side dishes were all lightly seasoned and fresh, with the vegetables still keeping their crunch 💚 And since the stir-fried pork can be refilled once you finish it, it just tastes even better!

Grilled Norwegian mackerel

Ordering the Korean set also gets you grilled Norwegian mackerel on the side, and the size is huge — plump and grilled well on both sides. Picking out the bones and eating it, it's nicely salted, making it the perfect side for rice.

Why we picked beef jeon as the main

You can choose the main for the Korean set, and we went with beef jeon. Fresh off the pan and warm, golden brown — eaten together with the chive salad, it's savory and a bit spicy, so delicious.

Beef seaweed soup

You can also pick from three seaweed soup toppings, and we ordered the beef version! It comes out as a whole individual serving in a stone bowl, packed with tender beef and plenty of Wando seaweed — the rich meat broth and deep sea flavor were just amazing.

Cockles in soy sauce dressing, mixed straight into the rice

For the cockle dish in the set, we chose the soy sauce dressing version, and just looking at the plump cockles straight from Yeosu tells you how good they are 🦪 The special soy sauce seasoning soaks right into the cockles, so it's delicious on its own, but mixing it into rice is really where it shines!!

Piled generously over sticky Sindongjin rice and mixed together, one big bite delivers a savory flavor that fills your mouth without being overpowering 〰️ Eating it with gopchang gim (roasted seaweed) brings the flavor to another level, and if you like the clean, deep taste of cockles on their own, I highly recommend this!

The free dessert corner: rice puffs, plum tea and sikhye

On the way out after the meal, there's a free dessert corner with rice puffs and plum tea & sikhye ready to go. The thoughtfulness of looking after guests all the way through dessert made this a 2000% satisfying experience 💛

Is Mikodam worth a visit?

From the neat table spread to the spacious layout, everything about this Korean restaurant near Balsan Station was satisfying! Made with good ingredients, it's a place I'd love to revisit with parents or family.
