Ruwon City kodari restaurant for a meal with mom: Hangsangcharim
In short
Hangsangcharim Kodari Myeongga Ruwon City Branch is a kodari (semi-dried pollock) and braised pollock restaurant that opened in early September on Bongoje 3-ro in Seohae, Incheon. Visiting with her mother, the writer ordered the 37,000-won braised pollock in the mild-spicy version and added 3,000-won stone-pot rice; one of the three fish was too much for two people and went home in a takeout box. The self-serve banchan bar was seasoned well enough to fill them up on side dishes alone, and even her picky mother approved because the sauce was sweet without being sticky.

We arrived at Hangsangcharim Kodari Myeongga Ruwon City Branch~~ Turns out it opened in early September?? Totally fresh brand-new restaurant~~ Had to check it out~~~

Inside the restaurant: atmosphere and seating
We walked in right as break time ended, ding! And we were the very first customers haha. Wow, boss, your place is super clean!

This spot looks great for a group! Nice orange lighting in here~

Menu prices and the 13,000-won weekday lunch special
The menu at Hangsangcharim Kodari Myeongga Ruwon City Branch features these 4 signature kodari-jjim (braised kodari) types!

Since we're here, might as well add another item! The weekday lunch special comes with one pollock per person! ₩13,000 is such a good deal!

The self-serve banchan bar and how well the sides are seasoned
The self-serve bar is beautifully laid out too! They bring the first round of sides, and you can freely go back for more without feeling shy!

Honestly haha, I basically had a whole meal off the side dishes alone... Do you know restaurants that really nail the seasoning? Not too salty, not too bland, just goes down so smoothly... Genuinely so good haha. I ended up packing the kodari-jjim to go and just kept eating banchan instead 😭💛
How mild is the 37,000-won braised pollock on the mild-spicy setting?
Here's the mild-spicy pollock stew! They said the regular spice level is Shin Ramyeon heat, so being a spice wimp, I dialed it down haha.
Pollock stew (myeongtae-jorim), ₩37,000

Wow, even at this level, that fiery red color is a work of art. Looks super appetizing, right?!?!
The owner even debones every piece for you! You just get to sit back and eat~~~~

- Pollock: The flesh is so plump and the fish itself is large! Soft, tender meat! Came with 3 fish!
- Portion: The two of us couldn't finish it, so we packed one fish to go!
- Taste: Even mild-spicy, it was so full of umami! Next time I want to try the regular spice level!! This wasn't spicy at all haha
Is the 3,000-won stone-pot rice worth adding?
Of course we ordered the stone-pot rice too~~~~ Couldn't resist~~~~~~~
Stone-pot rice, ₩3,000

Chewy, sticky stone-pot rice, so good~~ The rice was delicious too, so I mixed it heavily with the kodari sauce and ate a ton 😭. If your wallet has a little extra room that day, definitely get the stone-pot rice haha. And you have to top the scorched-rice tea with a piece of pollock. Absolutely incredible~~~~🔥

What my picky-eating mother thought of the pollock
My mom knows how to eat, wrapping bites in gim (seaweed) haha. She said her generation has been to a lot of pollock stew places, but if you pick the wrong one, you get this weird, sticky sweetness she hates. But she said this place was totally different — the sweetness actually brings out the spiciness more, and the sauce is so good she kept mixing it into her rice! I was so happy too, genuinely stuffed for the first time in a while.

Gave it a thumbs up and walked out satisfied.,.,👍🏻👍🏻 hahaha, so good.,.,., My dad ate the fish we packed to go — he usually doesn't eat much fish, but he finished all of it? He has kid-level taste buds, but he said it wasn't fishy at all and was delicious! Haha, wild that it pleased everyone's picky palate in our family!

Meal kits to take home and puffed rice crackers for dessert
They also sell meal kits like this! Oh, world's so good~~ If you're taking food to go, this could be great for you too haha.

The owner insisted we try the ppeong튀기 (puffed rice snack), so we had it for dessert~! But why is even this crispy and delicious.,? 😭😭😭😭 It's been so long since I had such a satisfying meal, I'm so pumped up.,.,. And honestly, the most rewarding part is my picky mom saying it's delicious.,.,. If you're looking for a good restaurant in Gajeong-dong! Hangsangcharim Kodari Myeongga Ruwon City Branch! You have to visit!!!
