Solo café visit near Sinnonhyeon: matcha cold brew, Something About

In short

Something About Coffee is a large café in Gangnam, Seoul, a 7-minute walk from Sinnonhyeon Station. On a solo weekend walk through Gangnam, tired legs led to a matcha cream cold brew, salted chocolate financier, and lemon Earl Grey scone, enjoyed from a hard-won seat on the second floor. It's a solid pick for resting alone or for a Gangnam date.

A bored solo weekend outing in Gangnam! I'd walked so much my legs were aching, so I ducked into this big Gangnam café, Something About Coffee, and I'm here to share it with you :)

Entrance to the café, 7 minutes on foot from Sinnonhyeon Station

How far is it from Sinnonhyeon Station?

Something About Coffee is a 7-minute walk from Sinnonhyeon Station, so think of it as a big station-adjacent Gangnam café. It's also close to Gangnam Station, so I'd highly recommend it if you're looking for a date spot or something to do in Gangnam.

Crowded first floor of the café on a weekend afternoon

The vibe on a weekend afternoon

I got there just after lunchtime and, sure enough, it was packed. Big cafés in Gangnam really seem to do great business on weekends,, (jealous). Something About Coffee spans the 1st and 2nd floors, so I was still able to relax in a spacious, comfortable space.

So many baked goods to choose from

There were so many types of baked pastries that I spent ages deciding, but once I caught the smell of dessert, picking just one felt like a waste haha. Seeing other customers grab several desserts each confirmed that Something About Coffee really is a dessert spot worth the hype.

There were plenty of drink options too — coffee, lattes, teas — and even though I usually just get iced Americanos, I tried the matcha cream cold brew here! I also noticed lots of sandwich options, which looked like a good lunch substitute.

What I ordered solo

  • Matcha cream cold brew
  • Salted chocolate financier
  • Lemon Earl Grey scone

Since I was visiting alone, this is what I ordered.

Finding a seat on the 2nd floor

I ended up sitting on the second floor, barely managing to grab the one remaining open seat.. The weather was cool and nice that day, so the café was really crowded.

My drink and desserts came out super fast, so I hurried back with them. Since I came alone today, both of these delicious desserts are entirely mine haha.

How the lemon Earl Grey scone tasted

I've been into Earl Grey desserts lately and eat them often, and this scone with lemon filling nailed that refreshing, tangy flavor perfectly! It wasn't a tiny mini-size either, so I could really taste it properly.

How was the salted chocolate financier?

Financiers are my favorite kind of baked pastry, so ordering one was a given ~ and since I wanted something sweet, I picked the salted chocolate flavor >< If I'd come with a friend I probably would've eaten four more, so it was a little disappointing haha?

The salted chocolate financier's saltiness wasn't as strong as I expected, so the sweetness came through more (which, honestly, was even better). It paired really well with the tangy lemon Earl Grey scone haha.

Cold brew topped with matcha cream

Matcha cream cold brew — good even for die-hard iced Americano fans?

The combination of bittersweet matcha cream and cold brew worked better than I expected. Behind the smooth matcha cream came the clean taste of cold brew, so even with sweet cream on top, it never felt too heavy. I'm usually a strict iced Americano person and don't order cream coffees much, but I drank this one all the way to the last sip!! If I come back to Something About Coffee, I think I'll order this again. If you like both matcha and Americanos, I'd highly recommend giving this one a try :)

Final shot of the drink and dessert at the solo seat

If you're looking for a big café near Gangnam's Sinnonhyeon Station that's great to visit solo, why not check out Something About Coffee, known for its baked goods and desserts? It's great for relaxing alone at your own pace, and I'd also recommend it as a Gangnam date course :)
