Gangnam Korean BBQ with plum highball and sulbap swap: Sansol

In short

Sansol Sinnonhyeon is an aged-pork Korean BBQ restaurant on Gangnam-daero 112-gil near Sinnonhyeon Station in Gangnam, Seoul. On a Saturday lunch visit with her older sister, the writer ordered Sansol aged samgyeopsal (pork belly), aged kkotmoksal (pork collar), country-style steamed egg and country-style doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) swapped for sulbap rice for 1,000 won more, and a staff member grilled each cut at the table. Downdraft ducts kept the smoke smell off her clothes, making Sansol Sinnonhyeon a place she would return to with her parents.

How long is the Saturday lunch wait at Sansol Sinnonhyeon?

Today I'm introducing an aged pork restaurant near Sinnonhyeon Station, Sansol Sinnonhyeon. After a dermatology appointment, my sister and I were trying to figure out where to grab lunch and ended up here! I was worried there'd be a wait since it was Saturday lunch, but thankfully we got seated right away.

Weekday and weekend hours differ slightly. There's also a break time, and with Chuseok holiday coming up this week, I'd recommend checking Naver before you go!

Exterior of the Sansol Sinnonhyeon building near Sinnonhyeon Station

It's close to Sinnonhyeon Station so it was easy to find, and honestly, from the outside the place looked much bigger than I expected.

Sansol's entrance on the right side of the building

Head to the right and you'll find the door into Sansol. The 1st floor is Sansol, and the 2nd floor is Ajju, a jjukkumi (webfoot octopus) restaurant!

Spacious, clean interior of Sansol Sinnonhyeon

Inside Sansol Sinnonhyeon: aging fridge and room seating

Walking in, the interior was spacious and clean, which I loved. When you think of a BBQ restaurant, you picture a bustling, chaotic vibe, but this place felt surprisingly relaxed, probably because of the open space!

There's also a private room space, which seemed great for family visits or group gatherings.

Aging chamber inside the restaurant with meat inside

I thought this was just decoration at first, but it's an actual aging chamber with real meat inside — so cool 🥩

Restroom space located inside the restaurant

Having restrooms inside the restaurant was another big plus — so convenient!

At our table, the drawer had chopsticks, spoons, and wet wipes all neatly arranged, and below that were dishes and plastic covers to protect your clothes.

Everything we needed was right there at the table — I was impressed by the owner's attention to detail... ///

What we ordered: aged samgyeopsal, kkotmoksal and steamed egg

Here's the Sansol menu!

Menu guide for Sansol's aged meat dishes

We ordered: - Sansol aged samgyeopsal (pork belly) - Sansol aged kkotmoksal (pork collar) - Country-style steamed egg - Country-style doenjang jjigae (swapped for sulbap rice) 🤤

Table of banchan side dishes to pair with the meat

After a short wait, they set out banchan (side dishes) that pair well with meat first. And these banchan are seriously good! There's a good variety and every single one was tasty.

Staff grill every cut at the table — how did the pork taste?

Then the meat we ordered arrived. What I loved most was that a staff member grilled it for us directly! They cooked each cut to the perfect timing, so we didn't have to keep hovering over the grill — so relaxing.

If you'd rather grill it yourself, just let the staff know and they'll let you haha.

Golden-brown, well-cooked samgyeopsal and kkotmoksal

The perfectly cooked samgyeopsal was golden brown on the outside and moist inside, full of juicy flavor, and the kkotmoksal wasn't dry at all — soft, with the meaty flavor coming through more the more you chewed. It was seriously sooooo good, for real x100.

Mukeunji grilled alongside the meat

They also grill mukeunji (aged kimchi) alongside it, and that's a hidden gem too!

Grill with the downdraft duct system attached

Does the BBQ smoke smell stick to your clothes at Sansol?

Sansol has a downdraft duct system, so apparently no meat smell lingers on your clothes 😮 I actually went straight to school after eating, and my friends had no idea I'd just eaten BBQ.

Country-style steamed egg and doenjang jjigae with a 1,000-won sulbap swap

The steamed egg was super moist with plenty of broth. Sesame oil drizzled on top made it nutty and soft, perfect to eat alongside the meat.

@ Country-style doenjang jjigae (swapped for sulbap)

The doenjang jjigae came out bubbling in a stone pot, looking delicious just from the visual alone!

Sulbap rice served alongside the doenjang jjigae

Instead of ordering plain rice, we tried swapping it for sulbap rice for an extra 1,000 won. It was packed with tofu and vegetables, with a rich broth — so good >..<

Plum highball received as a review event perk

We wrote a review and got a plum highball — and it wasn't that sugary-drink plum flavor, it tasted rich, like homemade plum extract. You've got to grab perks like this haha.

You can reserve ahead via Naver or Catch Table, so I'd recommend booking before you go. Note that if you're waiting for a table, there's a 2-hour time limit.

This time I came with just my sister, but Sansol was satisfying enough that I want to bring my parents next time too! The meat was just so good, and every single side dish and extra was delicious 😋 If you're looking for a BBQ restaurant near Sinnonhyeon Station, this is a definite recommendation.
