Eel rice bowl lunch for two with seating for 50 at Manmok, Daechi-dong
In short
Manmok is a Japanese restaurant in the Daechi-dong area of Gangnam, Seoul, specialising in eel rice bowls, a five-minute walk from Seonleung Station Exit 2. The writer visited for lunch with her boyfriend and ordered two whole-eel rice bowls at 39,000 won each, with Gochang freshwater eel grilled Kanto-style so it came out thick but never greasy. Between solo counter seats and group tables for up to 50 people, Manmok suits a first date, a family meeting or a team dinner just as well as a quick lunch.

Today I'm reviewing Manmok, famous as a Seonleung Station favorite and one of the best eel rice bowl spots in Gangnam. I stumbled on it by chance while walking by — it looked like it had great vibes from the outside, so I went in. The result: totally, completely, thoroughly satisfied!!
My boyfriend and I both love eel rice bowl, and out of all the ones I've tried, this is #1 🫧 Makes sense, since they only use freshwater eel from Gochang, known as Korea's best eel-producing region. Good ingredients plus careful technique add up to a perfect meal. If you love eel rice bowl, you have to visit this place. I'll review it in detail with photos below!

Where is Manmok, and where do you park?
Once you see this, you've arrived~ It's about a 5-minute walk from Seonleung Station (Line 2, Suin-Bundang Line) Exit 2, or about 12 minutes from Hanti Station (Suin-Bundang Line) Exit 1.
There are 2 parking spots right in front of the restaurant! After that, you'll need to use a nearby lot. I'd recommend calling ahead before you visit.

Inside Manmok: solo counter seats to tables for 50
The interior is really upscale and clean... there are solo seats, so it's great even if you're eating alone! With so many table types, it works no matter your group size.
I thought it'd be great for a blind date, or even a family meeting between in-laws haha. It'd also work well for a company dinner ~~ apparently it can seat up to 50 people.
The seats are clean too, right?? haha

Manmok's menu: what a 39,000-won whole eel rice bowl includes
Here's the menu~ We visited for lunch, but there are also grilled and nabe hot pot options in the evening, so keep that in mind! We ordered two eel rice bowls at 39,000 won each. My boyfriend paid — yay~~
On Naver Place there are various coupons like a birthday coupon and a draft beer coupon for group dinners, so check it out ✨

Ahh~ even the water tastes good

What comes on the eel rice bowl tray at Manmok
Here's how Manmok's eel rice bowl comes out as a full spread.

They also gave us white kimchi (baek-kimchi) and shredded radish salad. It was nice to eat those in between bites of eel.

Once they opened the lid, the whole spread was insane... clockwise from top left: salad, side dishes (sancho pepper, pickled ginger, wasabi, radish), shrimp chawanmushi (steamed egg), eel rice bowl, and matsutake mushroom soup.

It's so pretty I kept taking photos ~ the matsutake mushroom aroma was pretty strong. It tasted upscale, like a little gift to myself lol

The chawanmushi was so soft!! The shrimp inside had a nice springy texture too.
How the Kanto-style grilled eel at Manmok tastes
The best part was of course this eel •• 😍 Might come across better in video form??
Apparently eel rice bowls are broadly divided into Kanto-style, Kansai-style, and Nagoya-style. Manmok sticks to the Kanto-style cooking method, which brings out the eel's texture and clean flavor! They grill the eel once, steam it, brush it with a secret sauce, then grill it twice more over charcoal — cutting down the greasiness while keeping the softness and deep flavor.

So insanely good 😍😍😍

I loved that the eel was thick and not greasy. My boyfriend said this was the best he'd ever had the moment he took a bite lol

Eating it with wasabi on top is my personal favorite!! There was sancho pepper powder on the table too, and that was tasty mixed in as well.

Free dessert if you ask: matcha and black tea ice cream
Just as we'd almost finished and were about to leave, they asked, would you like some dessert? haha I had no idea it existed!! They gave us matcha and black tea ice cream, perfect as a palate cleanser.

If you're looking for a Seonleung Station favorite or the best eel rice bowl in Gangnam, I recommend Manmok 🥰
