I'd heard Mikodam Magok-Balsan Branch was a solid Korean restaurant pick near Balsan Station, so I went to check it out.

It's a place serving a Korean set menu centered on seaweed soup and cockles — the kind of spot where you get to try a lot of dishes and sides all at once.

Inside Mikodam: atmosphere and room seating

White tones, comfortable for eating, but still with that neat, put-together feel you get at a proper Korean set-menu place!

There's also a room-style space set up further inside, which seems perfect for a family meal or a bigger group gathering.

What comes in the Korean set for two

I ordered the set menu for two at Mikodam Magok-Balsan Branch. It's made up of beef seaweed soup (one serving), cockle bibimbap (one serving), and Jeju soy crab.

I also ordered a cider to have alongside the food. The set comes at a discount, so both the price and the composition are great!!

Once the whole spread was laid out, it was way more generous than I expected. Along with the main dishes, several basic side dishes came out to go with the rice, and with stir-fried pork, japchae, and lettuce wraps added on, the table filled up fast.

How side-dish refills work at the kiosk

I paired the sides with the seaweed soup and cockle bibimbap bite by bite. And when a side dish ran low, it was convenient that you could just use the kiosk to request a refill.

Plus — the japchae and stir-fried pork are refillable too...!!

Jeju soy crab, cockle bibimbap and beef seaweed soup

Soy crab for the first time in a while >< salty with a nice savory depth, loved it haha. I'm a big fan of soy crab~

The cockles were piled on generously, topped with chives and sesame seeds, so it looked appetizing even before mixing >< Once I stirred the cockles and seasoning through the rice, the savory soy flavor and the chewy texture of the cockles worked really well together.

The beef seaweed soup! There was plenty of seaweed and beef in it, so it wasn't just a broth you sip — you could eat your way through hearty chunks too.

A big grilled mackerel comes with it too — so generous, so generous.

With the cockle bibimbap too, the soy base with plenty of chives makes it perfect for wrapping in seaweed~

The cockles were spot-on in both seasoning and texture, and it paired perfectly with the seaweed soup.

I was torn between abalone seaweed soup and beef seaweed soup but went with beef — and the beef in it is seriously generous!

Exactly what you want on a day you're craving something warm, clean, and filling in Korean food.

Is Mikodam good for family meals and gatherings?

It seemed like a good option especially for eating out with parents, family outings, or finding a place for a gathering!

On the way out, plum sikhye and warm roasted corn made for the perfect way to end the meal~! A place with a real sense of thoughtfulness haha. That's it for my Mikodam review!
