What is the atmosphere like inside this Yeongdeungpo Korean pub?

🏮 Walking inside, there are handwritten notes on the walls and folk paintings hung here and there — it gives such a warm, nostalgic feeling! These days there are a lot of modern, sleek-looking bars, but this place felt cozy and friendly thanks to its atmosphere, like visiting grandma's house 👵

There were quite a lot of tables, enough that groups of about 10 people could come. I heard it's a famous chain with many branches nationwide, and after visiting in person I could see why so many groups come here :)

How many kinds of makgeolli does Halmae Gireumjip pour?

🍶 One thing I was really looking forward to while searching for a makgeolli spot near Yeongdeungpo-gu Office was the variety of makgeolli, and I liked that quite a few of the ones I knew were available so everyone could pick according to their taste. That day I went with my favorite, Tiger fresh makgeolli 🐯🍶

And apparently since September, 5 new popular makgeolli varieties have been added. They even have ube makgeolli and matcha makgeolli, so next time I want to try the new ones one by one.

Whole potato jeon as wide as two adults' hands

🥔 The main dish we ordered that day was the "whole potato jeon"! Unlike the usual shredded potato jeon, this one uses whole potatoes, so it felt much heartier.

Above all, the texture was so crispy! Crispy like eating a snack — like potato chips — so my hand kept reaching for it along with the makgeolli 😂 And since we tend to eat slowly, jeon usually cools down and loses its appeal, but this one was still delicious even after eating slowly. A jeon that's still good cold is rare... I really felt that this day haha

The complimentary snack: tofu kimchi

🥢 The tofu kimchi that came as a basic side dish was also great. The tofu was really, really savory with a clean taste like it was homemade — I wanted more. When the jeon got a bit too heavy, tofu kimchi with makgeolli....

Halmae Gireumjip menu, from lunch stews to evening jeon

🍲 Halmae Gireumjip is also good for lunch. There are hearty options like budae-jjigae (army stew), budae-bokkeum, zucchini pork jjaglee, and squid dupelgi, and at night there's a variety of Korean drinking snacks from jeon like assorted pancakes, kimchi jeon, and seafood pajeon to soups and stir-fries. There's even sorbet for dessert 🍧 Next time I definitely want to try the minari shrimp jeon, gimbap jeon, and clam soup!!!
