Magok Station pork omakase date with chestnut soup: Don Tamguso
In short
Don Tamguso is a pork omakase restaurant a 3-minute walk from Magok Station in Gangseo, Seoul, serving pork-themed tasting courses. On a low-key anniversary date with her boyfriend, the writer ordered the 58,000 won dinner course at Don Tamguso and went through chestnut and button mushroom soup, mushroom lasagna, truffle-scented tenderloin, a signature burger with abalone risotto, and blueberry panna cotta. My boyfriend and I had something small to celebrate, so we went looking for a good restaurant for a date and ended up at Don Tamguso. Don Tamguso apparently means a place that researches how to enjoy pork in the most delicious way ~

I went in expecting a different experience from the usual meat dishes, and I walked out having eaten an incredibly good pork omakase! At 58,000 won per person, it wasn't too much of a burden either, so the value for money was really satisfying~
How to find Don Tamguso and where to park near Magok Station
Don Tamguso is a 3-minute walk from Magok Station on Line 5, behind Hillstate Eco Magok. Parking is at Botanic Park 3!
Free parking is provided, so it's good if you're driving, and it's really close to Magok Station, so it's a convenient Magok date spot by public transit too!
Inside Don Tamguso: ground-floor open kitchen and soft lighting

Don Tamguso is on the 1st floor, so it's not hard to find. Thanks to the soft lighting, it's comfortable but still has atmosphere~

It's an open kitchen, so you can watch the cooking, and the staff explain each dish in detail as it comes out, so it's fun to watch as well as to eat!

A solid choice for a Magok Station date spot with good atmosphere on the weekend~!!

Soup: chestnut, button mushroom and cream

A soup made with chestnut, mushroom, and cream. It was a smooth soup with candied walnuts adding a bit of crunch.

The harmony of chestnut, mushroom, and cream in this soup was so good!
Salad: persimmon vinegar foam sauce

A salad with dried persimmon strips, orange, apple, basil, and prosciutto!

The sauce came as a foam, which was a fun change — it's a persimmon vinegar foam, so a spoonful fills your mouth with tanginess~
Lasagna: mushroom sheets instead of pasta
A lasagna where the mushroom's distinctive chewy texture really came through!

They use mushroom instead of flour, so unlike a regular lasagna, it's easy on the stomach.

The white ragu and mozzarella were savory, and the house-made barbecue sauce was rich but not overpowering, pairing really well with the mushroom.
Main 1: truffle-scented pork tenderloin

The tenderloin was so tender the knife just slid right through!

It had a faint hint of truffle and was cooked so gently that it had a savory, deep flavor, and the sun-dried tomato and lettuce salad on the side kept it light without any greasiness~
Main 2: Sichuan pepper, cumin and fennel

Served with Sichuan pepper, cumin, and fennel, this dish had a subtle exotic aroma!

The chewy texture of the meat combined with the fragrance of minari (water dropwort) and various spices made for a dish that felt familiar yet distinctive.
Select course: signature burger or abalone risotto
You can choose between the signature burger and the risotto, and since we came as a couple, we each picked one.

The signature burger, packed full of carrot slaw, cheese, and jambon. A soft, satisfying flavor that fills your mouth!

The risotto was soft with fried glasswort and abalone and gejang (crab roe) sauce, and topped with Grana Padano cheese, which doubled the savoriness.
Dessert: blueberry panna cotta
That day's dessert was blueberry panna cotta~

A dessert with a soft, milky flavor — such a nice sweet way to finish the meal.
Is Don Tamguso worth it for a Magok Station date night?
If you want a special meal somewhere different from an ordinary barbecue restaurant, or if you want to set a relaxed, romantic mood on the weekend, definitely visit Don Tamguso~ Highly recommended for couples looking for a Magok Station restaurant or a Magok Station date spot~~

The unique pork-themed course and the fact that the lineup apparently changes each season made this a place that didn't miss a beat — really satisfying all around~!!
