City Hall Station Chinese restaurant with window bar seats: Huhugwan

There was a place I had had my eye on for ages after seeing it on social media and hearing about it from people around me. When the opportunity came up, I headed there on my way home from work. It is already so well known as a good restaurant near City Hall Station and Deoksugung Palace that my anticipation grew and grew on the way there.

An Evening Meal at Huhugwan

I enjoyed my meal at a cozy window bar seat. It was nice to spend time comfortably while looking out at the view.

As you would expect from a popular spot near Deoksugung Palace, the interior had an exotic feel. The red lighting and décor really heightened the Chinese-restaurant atmosphere.

There was a notice for a QR event beside the table. It was easy to join with a smartphone, and you could receive a spring roll.

Paper cups and water bottles were neatly arranged on a wall shelf. They had been set out so guests could use them comfortably.

Traditional liquor bottles were displayed beneath the words “Chinese izakaya.” Looking at the variety of bottles was fun, too.

There was a basket under the bar-table chair for belongings. It was convenient for keeping a bag or other things safely stored.

Yuringi and Side Dishes

The complimentary pre-meal side was sweet-and-salty roasted peanuts. I kept reaching for them before the mains arrived.

Crunchy pickled radish was served in a clear container. Taking out just what I wanted with the tongs cut through any richness perfectly.

Golden fried dumplings were topped with a spicy sauce and scallions. They were crisp outside and moist inside, so I kept eating them.

These were boiled dumplings with a generous extra topping of cilantro that we added at Huhugwan, a popular spot near Deoksugung Palace. The fragrant cilantro paired beautifully with the spicy sauce.

Yuringi, the signature dish at this popular City Hall Station restaurant, arrived on a large stone platter. It was so appealing with plenty of punchy chili and minced-garlic sauce on top.

A generous pile of crisp fried chicken sat over fresh tomatoes and lettuce. The sweet-and-tangy sauce alongside the vegetables brought everything together.

I picked up a cross-section of Huhugwan’s signature yuringi. Beneath the crisp coating, it was full of moist chicken. We laid out all the dishes we ordered into a generous full spread. The colorful presentation made me even more excited before taking a bite.

Maybe because it is so well known near City Hall Station, the fried chicken looked especially impressive. It was piled high with fresh vegetables and spicy chilies.

A Great Atmosphere for Dates and Gatherings

The exotic yet tidy atmosphere stood out, making it just right for a date or a get-together.

Overall, the atmosphere was comfortable and every dish felt carefully prepared, so I had a lovely meal from start to finish. Whenever I am craving good Chinese food, I think I will come back often.
