Jeonju chicken shop for late-night snacks: Mannyeon Dakgangjeong

This time, my family went to clear some graves, and we squeezed in a little trip to Jeonju too. If you come to Jeonju, you simply can’t skip Jeonju Hanok Village ✨ We looked around the village, walked its pretty streets, and wandered here and there—before we knew it, we were getting hungry.

While looking for a late-night snack before heading back to our lodging after dinner, we found Mannyeon Dakgangjeong Hanok Village Direct Store (만년닭강정 한옥마을직영점). Jeonju Hanok Village has so much to eat, from street food to all kinds of snacks, but we chose dakgangjeong (Korean sweet-and-spicy fried chicken bites), a crowd-pleaser 😊 It’s sweet and spicy, with a flavor that everyone can enjoy!

An easy stop while walking around Hanok Village

Mannyeon Dakgangjeong Hanok Village Direct Store is in a great spot to pop into while exploring the village—such good access! It’s just one minute from Gyeonggijeon. Since it’s practically in the middle of Hanok Village, it was easy to naturally stop by and get takeout while walking around. The lovely smell of chicken drifts through the street, so it catches your eye even as you pass by.

Mannyeon Dakgangjeong, one of Jeonju Hanok Village’s food stops, uses fresh fruit sauce for its sweet-and-spicy coating, and they say it tastes even better after it cools. Once you receive the dakgangjeong, open the lid to keep it from getting soggy.

Dakgangjeong and shrimp dakgangjeong menu

The menu includes mild, spicy, soy sauce, and fried dakgangjeong, and you can also get a half-and-half order. They sell shrimp dakgangjeong too, and it was such a special treat. Side dishes include sotteok sotteok (rice cake and sausage skewers), sweet potato cheese sticks, fried jjonddeugi (chewy snack strips), and cheese balls.

I ordered the large shrimp + chicken dakgangjeong combo in the mild flavor.

You can get draft beer to go, too! I can’t even imagine how refreshing it would be to sip it while walking around. Leave a receipt review and you can receive a cute chicken toy or sotteok sotteok.

Fried and coated to order

They fry the chicken as soon as you order. The chicken is crisply fried in hot oil, then drained as much as possible so it stays light rather than greasy. It’s also an open kitchen where you can see the clean environment, which made me trust it even more.

Since you can watch exactly how your order is made right in front of you, the wait doesn’t feel boring. More than anything, I loved being able to see the cooking process for myself. Mannyeon Dakgangjeong is a Jeonju Hanok Village favorite 👍

Fire power, woo~ The process of adding the sauce evenly in a hot wok was so impressive. They stir-fried the dakgangjeong in a huge heated wok, coating it in sauce; every time they moved the wok, you could see the sauce cling neatly to every corner of the chicken. Watching the dakgangjeong turn glossy made my mouth water before we were even done waiting, haha.

A large shrimp + chicken dakgangjeong for a lodging-night snack

It was a freshly made, piping-hot large shrimp + chicken dakgangjeong combo, so I expected a decent amount—but when I actually received it, it was much more generous than I expected. I loved it!!!

It was heavy, so I tossed it to my younger sibling and off we went to the lodging!

Half chicken dakgangjeong and half shrimp ✨ We ordered just one item but got to enjoy both chicken and seafood, which was great. If you’re sharing with several people or planning a late-night snack at your lodging, I recommend the large size!!

Seriously, the shrimp dakgangjeong was much more substantial than I expected. There were quite a lot of shrimp, and each one was plump—not tiny cocktail shrimp!!!

The batter-fried shrimp and dakgangjeong were crispy and evenly coated in sauce, with such a beautiful shine ✨ We couldn’t leave out drinks, so we had a glass~ It was perfect with beer.

I ordered the mild flavor this time!! Rather than being spicy or intense, the sauce was sweet and savory, so it was easy to enjoy with my family. In particular, it wasn’t overwhelmingly sweet—it had a gentle depth of flavor, which I really liked. Maybe because they use fresh fruit sauce, the coating didn’t feel heavy or murky; it tasted clean 👍
