A generous fresh duck roast in Naun-dong, Gunsan

Today, I’m bringing you a fresh-off-the-visit review of Gunsan Jumulreok (군산주물럭), a fantastic duck restaurant in Naun-dong, Gunsan.

Visit to Gunsan Jumulreok in Naun-dong, Gunsan

For anyone looking for a great duck bulgogi-style stir-fry spot in Gunsan or Naun-dong, I totally want to recommend this place. It’s seriously one of the best values around in this high-cost-of-living era, so there were loads of customers here for group get-togethers and company dinners too! 🥳✨

Restaurant notice at Gunsan Jumulreok

I spotted a notice on the wall saying they use 100% domestic sulfur-fed duck, and only young ducks at that. Since it’s premium, Grade 1 fresh sulfur-fed duck, I already had so much faith in the quality before even taking a bite. 🥩👍

1 kg fresh duck roast order

A 1 kg fresh duck roast that filled the whole grill

This time, we ordered the 1 kg fresh duck roast (one whole duck / serves 3–4). It costs ₩59,000, and I was amazed by how generous it was—it filled the wide grill completely!

Fresh duck and vegetables on the grill

They started arranging the fresh duck, garlic, enoki mushrooms, and minari (water dropwort) beautifully on the grill.

Fresh duck roast and minari grilling

The fragrant minari comes as part of the basic spread at first, and extra is ₩3,000. The combination of minari and mushrooms browned in the duck fat was honestly the best. 🌿🔥

Duck with fresh kimchi and sesame oil dip

The complimentary side dishes were wonderfully substantial too. Bean sprout salad, macaroni salad, shredded scallions, fresh kimchi, and other tasty banchan (Korean side dishes) were laid out so neatly.

Complimentary side dish spread at Gunsan Jumulreok

This place is especially amazing for fresh kimchi! It was crunchy and wonderfully seasoned, and the pairing with the rich duck was incredible. 🥬🌶️

Fresh duck roast with fresh kimchi
Nicely browned fresh duck roast

I dipped a nicely browned piece of fresh duck roast into the nutty sesame oil dip, and... it was just insanely delicious! The signature texture of the sulfur-fed duck was wonderfully chewy yet tender—an absolute work of art.

Duck enjoyed in a lettuce wrap

It was delicious with seasoned chives too, and making a big lettuce wrap with duck, fresh kimchi, and garlic made my whole mouth happy. 😋❤️

The serving was so generous that we began eating leisurely, thinking we’d pack up anything left over. But after dipping it in the sesame oil and diligently making wraps, it was just too good—we ended up finishing every last bit! 🙈🐷

₩3,000 drinks and free duck bone soup

And the truly amazing standout here is the drink price. In this high-cost-of-living era, soju and beer are an unbelievable ₩3,000 each!

You take them yourself from the refrigerator, and with prices this kind, the restaurant was buzzing with customers here for company dinners and get-togethers. 🍺🍾

I was sadly too full to try the duck bone soup. For reference, it’s served free of charge, so be sure to ask the owner before you eat! I had to pass this time because I felt like I might burst, but next time I’m definitely leaving room in my stomach and properly digging into the bone soup too. 🍲🔥
