Four dishes for ₩50,600 at Gangnam Station Chinese spot Namsogwan

On days near Gangnam Station when I'm looking for lunch or just craving good Chinese food, it's always a question of what to eat. This time I went to Namsogwan U Yuk Dosakmyeon (남소관 우육도삭면), a Chinese restaurant that's a solid pick near Gangnam Station.

Where Namsogwan is and what the room feels like

Namsogwan is easy to reach from Gangnam Station, so it worked well as a lunch spot too. It has a wide range of menu options, from noodle dishes to rice bowls, which made it good for visiting with a group.

We ordered several menu items to share at the table. U yuk dosakmyeon, shaomai, eggplant rice bowl, and guobaorou each had a different charm, so if you're visiting with a group, it's nice to order a variety.

Shaomai, ₩9,800

Namsogwan's shaomai is ₩9,800, bite-sized and easy to eat, so it worked well as a side dish alongside the other menu items. Adding dim sum like this rather than sticking to just noodles or rice makes the meal feel more filling.

Eggplant rice bowl, ₩10,800

The eggplant rice bowl is ₩10,800, a dish that lets you enjoy eggplant and rice together, and it felt satisfying. Eating the soft eggplant with rice was filling enough for a full meal on its own. It suits anyone looking for a rice dish at a Chinese restaurant, and ordering it alongside a noodle dish let us compare the different flavors, which was nice.

Guobaorou, ₩19,000

And a dish you can't skip — guobaorou. It's ₩19,000. It's the kind of dish many people order almost automatically at a Chinese restaurant, so we ordered it this time too. When eating with a group, adding a sharable dish like guobaorou is always a good move. Paired with the noodles and rice, it made the meal even more varied.

How do the beef knife-cut noodles taste?

And then there was the restaurant's signature dish, u yuk dosakmyeon (beef knife-cut noodles). It's ₩11,000. As the name suggests, it combines beef noodle soup with dosakmyeon (hand-shaved noodles), so it's worth trying at least once if you like noodles.

Dosakmyeon has more thickness and chew than regular noodles, so eating it with the broth gives a more interesting texture. Having the warm broth with the noodles felt filling and satisfying for lunch.

If you especially like u yuk dosakmyeon or enjoy the distinctive chew of dosakmyeon, I'd recommend ordering it as your main. When getting lunch near Gangnam Station, you want something you can eat quickly but that's still filling — and in that sense, u yuk dosakmyeon fit the bill perfectly.
