In short

Pujutgan Saenggogi-jeom is a cauldron-lid pork belly restaurant in the Haengdang Market food alley by Exit 10 of Wangsimni Station in Seongdong, Seoul. On this tenth-plus visit, the writer came with family and ordered 4 servings of pork belly plus doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew), kimchi jjigae, mul naengmyeon (cold noodles), janchi guksu (banquet noodles) and a bowl of rice, which the staff turned into fried rice with roasted seaweed flakes and sesame oil. Hi, this is Habery 🤍 When someone suggests eating meat in Wangsimni, I barely even think about it — I go to Pujutgan Saenggogi. I've genuinely been more than ten times now, so it's become a regular spot my whole family knows about too haha. This time I went again for dinner with my family, and as usual it was packed. It's inside the Haengdang Market food alley near Exit 10 of Wangsimni Station, so it's easy to get to and perfect for a meal after work!!

Pujutgan Saenggogi-jeom sits deep inside the Haengdang Market food alley. Haengdang Market itself is packed with good restaurants, so it's fun just to walk around, and this place is always one of the busiest. Whenever I'm in Wangsimni and craving meat, I basically always end up here haha. There's a warm, market-neighborhood vibe and lots of regulars, which makes it feel even more comfortable to visit.

Inside Pujutgan Saenggogi-jeom: family-friendly tables and the basic banchan spread

The interior is bigger than you'd expect. Plenty of people come for family meals, gatherings, or work dinners, and the tables are set up generously. As soon as we sat down, the staff set the table quickly and brought out the side dishes one after another. They also gave us plastic covers so the smell of meat wouldn't stick to our clothes — a thoughtful touch I really appreciated.

The basic table setting is quite generous too. Starting with lettuce for wraps, there's a good variety of side dishes that go well with the meat. Mushrooms and onions especially tend to run out fast while grilling, right? But they kept restocking without us running short, which I loved 🤍 The staff were friendly too, bringing whatever we asked for right away.

What we ordered: 4 servings of pork belly with stews and noodles

This time we ordered our usual combo again.

  • 4 servings of pork belly
  • doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew)
  • kimchi jjigae
  • mul naengmyeon (cold noodles in broth)
  • janchi guksu (noodle soup)
  • a bowl of rice

My family loves meat, so we started with a base of 4 servings of pork belly 🥩

How does pork belly grilled on a cauldron lid taste?

Coming to Pujutgan Saenggogi, it's really about the pork belly. Just hearing it sizzle on the cauldron lid makes me happy haha. The nicely browned pork belly is juicy and savory, and it's really good. Grilling it together with kimchi, mushrooms, and onion makes the best combo 👍 It's great wrapped in lettuce, and just as good dipped in salt alone. Every time, I understand all over again why I've come back more than ten times.

Grilling kimchi, potato, onion, and mushrooms with the pork belly

At Pujutgan Saenggogi, it's not just pork belly on the cauldron lid — you also get to grill kimchi, potato, onion, and mushrooms along with it 🥩 Kimchi and mushrooms cooking in the pork fat are impossible to resist!! The onion turns sweet as it cooks, and the potato gets fluffy, which pairs perfectly with the meat. Put a piece of grilled kimchi on top of a slice of pork belly, then eat some mushroom too, and you just keep going 🤍 It's much more filling than eating meat alone, and you don't get tired of it even by the end — I really loved this combination.

The sides at Pujutgan: doenjang jjigae, kimchi jjigae, naengmyeon, guksu, and nurungji

The biggest strength of this place has to be the side dishes ✨ Order enough meat for your group and you can enjoy dessert-style menus like kimchi jjigae, doenjang jjigae, naengmyeon, guksu, and nurungji — it's genuinely satisfying. This time we had doenjang jjigae and kimchi jjigae together. The doenjang jjigae was rich and savory, pairing well with the meat, while the kimchi jjigae was spicy and refreshing, so we kept going back for more.

Staff-grilled fresh pork belly wrapped in mountain garlic leaves

Coming to Pujutgan Saenggogi, again, it's really about the pork belly 🥩 The plump raw pork belly has great juiciness and a savory appeal. It's also a plus that the staff grill it for you, so you can eat comfortably 🤍 On the cauldron lid, kimchi, potato, onion, and mushrooms all cook together, and eating them with the meat makes a really great combination. Put a piece of pork belly on a lettuce leaf, wrap it with grilled kimchi and mountain garlic leaves, and you keep eating more haha. The mountain garlic leaves never ran short either, which made it even more satisfying ✨

A bite of mul naengmyeon while eating meat feels like it cleans your palate completely! The janchi guksu had a clean broth too, making it a perfect finishing dish. Even when you're already full, you somehow keep eating 🤣

Rice turned into fried rice with seaweed flakes

The highlight: a bowl of rice fried at the table

And here's the point that really made this day! I only added a bowl of rice, but they turned it into fried rice for us 🤍 They also brought roasted seaweed flakes and sesame oil separately so we could season it to our own taste, and the savory aroma that rose up made it the perfect finish. You know eating meat isn't complete without fried rice afterward, right? haha

I've already visited more than ten times, but I leave satisfied every single time 🤍 The plump pork belly is delicious, and the sides are so generous that it's a great spot for family meals or gatherings. If you're looking for a great pork belly restaurant in the Haengdang Market food alley, I think Pujutgan Saenggogi is well worth a visit 🥩 I'm sure I'll be back again haha.
