When you're drained from a long day and need a boost, the first thing that comes to mind is savory pork belly! Today I visited Mapo Gui Madang Yonggang Direct Branch, where premium-quality meat gets a smoky char from Chiaksan charcoal pre-grilling, paired with green onion kimchi that has real Jeolla-do flavor.
Here's my honest take on the raw whole pork belly and pork neck — no gamey smell at all, just juices bursting out — plus my review of the green onion kimchi that kept my chopsticks moving, and the vibe that makes this place perfect for a company dinner 👍
Quick summary
- Pre-grilled on Chiaksan charcoal first, so there's no gamey smell and a subtle smoky aroma throughout
- All the kimchi and side dishes are made in-house with domestic ingredients — the green onion kimchi especially will have you eating even after you're full!
- A Mapo Station favorite for group dinners: comfortable dining space and reasonably priced 200g portions make it ideal for gatherings
Location and hours
Mapo Gui Madang Yonggang Direct Branch is a 7-minute walk from Exit 1 of Mapo Station (Line 5) toward the Yonggang-dong food street.

It's open daily from 4:00 PM to 10:30 PM — perfect for delicious pork belly and a drink after work! It's even been featured on the TV show 'Maissseuljido,' a proven favorite among Mapo locals for its quality meat ✨

Interior atmosphere and the wait
The tables are spaced out generously, making it ideal for office workers near Mapo Station having a company dinner or a family gathering. It was packed on my visit, so I waited about 20 minutes to get in. The interior seats about 12–15 tables, and they can all be pushed together, which makes it great for group gatherings too.

Menu setup: a full 200g per serving
Mapo Gui Madang serves a full 200g per serving for each type of meat, which makes for great value. We didn't notice the 200g portion size at first and ordered three servings — we couldn't even finish with fried rice afterward. We usually handle three servings easily, but that's how generous the portions were! And the kimchi and all the food are made with domestic ingredients! 🇰🇷

Honest review: raw whole pork belly and pork neck
🎁 What we ordered today • Raw whole pork belly (200g) x2 servings (₩27,800) • Raw whole pork neck (200g) x1 serving (₩13,900)
We ordered the classic staples of any pork belly restaurant — two servings of raw whole pork belly and one serving of raw whole pork neck! As soon as we ordered, a spread of thick cuts, nicely pre-grilled on charcoal, arrived at the table ✨

Sizzle, sizzle 🔥 Since the meat is pre-grilled on charcoal first, you don't have to wait long on the grill to finish cooking it — which meant the conversation never had to pause.

The real star: Jeolla-do green onion kimchi
The real star of this place is the green onion kimchi served as a side dish. The pungent, sweet-and-spicy seasoning clings so well that even while grilling meat alongside it, I kept reaching for more kimchi even after I was full. It was seriously addictive enough that you could fill up on the kimchi alone... you really have to try it..👍

Let's dig in and actually grill it up ✨

The signature sauce they serve on the side adds so much savory depth and umami..🥺

Definitely eat it with the green onion kimchi..🥺 It's so, so good and packed with umami. Personally, I think the green onion kimchi tastes better without grilling it.

I wrapped up a hearty lettuce wrap and chomped down

A walk to Hangang Park after the meal
It's close to Hangang Park, so after we finished eating that day we headed straight to the river to watch a fireworks festival! Being this close to the Han River makes the neighborhood even better 👍

Final verdict
Mapo Gui Madang Yonggang Direct Branch delivers the perfect combo of high-quality whole pork belly and pork neck with real smoky char from charcoal pre-grilling, plus green onion kimchi packed with Jeolla-do expertise — hands-down the top pork belly restaurant near Mapo Station 👍 If you want gamey-smell-free, savory pork belly near Mapo Station, or you're looking for a can't-fail company dinner spot, I highly recommend Mapo Gui Madang Yonggang Direct Branch ✨
