If you want delicious bread in Songdo, too

Every time I go to Songdo, there's one thing I agonize over: "Which bakery today?"

I was hunting for a great bakery in Songdo and ended up at Tomoru Bakery! There are so many pretty cafés, but places where the bread is actually good are fewer than you'd think. The coffee is fine but the bread disappoints, or the atmosphere is lovely but there's hardly any selection. You've all been there, right? I've had that experience many times, so now I want to avoid failures and look for places I can trust.

After visiting Tomoru Bakery's Songdo branch this time, I immediately understood why so many people call it the best bakery at Songdo Triple Street once I tasted it myself. With a big shop, lots of breads and hearty sandwiches, it covers everything from brunch to dessert in one go.

How big is Tomoru Bakery?

Tomoru Bakery's Songdo branch is much bigger than I expected, with all kinds of seating, so it never felt stuffy. The scale was the first thing I noticed as soon as I walked in.

Some people were drinking coffee alone, and I saw families, couples and friends enjoying brunch. Above all, there were so many kinds of bread that choosing took the longest. From savory meal breads to sweet dessert breads and sandwiches, everything looked so tempting that my tray filled up fast.

a variety of sandwiches made with fresh ingredients, enough for brunch or a full meal. The vegetables were fresh and the fillings generous, so it was more filling than I expected.

So I thought it would work for a date, a family visit or even a get-together. The shop is large and the tables are well spaced, so staying a long time felt comfortable.

What is kkamang-i and how much is it?

Tomoru Bakery's kkamang-i (까망이) costs ₩5,800 and is a squid ink dough bread filled with cream cheese and walnuts. It was my number one favorite item.

Kkamang-i was the first thing I ate. The unusual name made me reach for it first, and in person, the chic look of the squid ink dough was really striking.

The outside was chewy and the inside had plenty of soft cream cheese. Crunchy walnuts added a great texture. The plain savoriness of the squid ink dough and the richness of the cream cheese go well together, so it's not heavy at all. Personally, I liked that it wasn't too sweet. One bite and I knew why it's a popular item.

What does Tomoru Bakery's signature salt bread taste like?

Tomoru Bakery's salt bread (소금빵) is ₩2,400, and if you come to Tomoru, I really hope you'll try it. It's such a famous signature item that I had high expectations, and it exceeded them.

Crispy outside and moist inside, with buttery flavor filling your mouth and a great balance with the salty salt. The price is easy too, so I see why many people take several home. With coffee, it was the perfect combination.

How were the Royal Soboro and Valrhona choco baguette?

If you like soboro bread (streusel-topped bread), I'd also recommend Tomoru Bakery's Royal Soboro (₩3,700).

Made with Tomoru's own special recipe, it was crispy outside and moist inside, and even the crumbs were nutty, so I kept reaching for more.

And the item chocolate lovers can't pass up is the choco baguette (₩6,000). Whole Valrhona chocolate is baked inside, so you see plenty of chocolate when you slice it, and the deep chocolate flavor as you chew was really satisfying. The bread itself is plain and the chocolate is rich, so the sweetness is well balanced. I took it home and ate it with coffee, and for that moment the café atmosphere carried right over.

Why Tomoru Bakery's sandwiches are popular

I heard the sandwiches are a really popular item at Tomoru Bakery too. Seeing it in person, I understood why so many people grab one.

They're packed with fresh vegetables, so they're not greasy and are light to eat. I thought they'd be fine as a snack or a meal replacement. Next visit, I'm definitely going to try the fresh vegetable croquette (생야채고로케) too.

Why I recommend this Songdo Central Park bakery

Tomoru Bakery near Songdo Central Park

Songdo has so many pretty cafés, but Tomoru Bakery was the first place in a while where I was happy with the taste, the space and the menu all together. It's not a place with just one good bread or just good coffee, and the sandwiches are hearty too, so I think anyone you bring would be happy.

It's good to stop by after a walk in Central Park, and if you have plans near Incheon National University Station, it's a really good brunch spot too. Above all, I remember the staff being friendly, so I could stay in a good mood.

These days there are lots of pretty cafés, but not many you want to come back to, right? Yet at Tomoru Bakery, my first thought was "Which bread should I try next time?", that's how satisfied I was. Kkamang-i especially stayed with me so much that I regret not taking a few more home, and I'll definitely pick up the salt bread again next visit.
